Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Edwin Jackson (3-4, 3.70) v. Josh Beckett (5-4, 4.30)

The game will be on NESN and ESPN outside the NESN area.

Boston weather: 4 pm observation at KBOS: Wind out of the northeast at 9 mph, visibility 0.25 mile in light rain, fog, and mist, ceiling at 100 feet overcast, temperature 56F, DP 44F

Forecast: The low is sitting off the coast and the counterclockwise circulation is causing an onshore flow that keeps pockets of rain spinning around. The heaviest rain is offshore, and there shouldn't be any significant rain tonight, but we could end up with this drippy, drizzly stuff off and on this evening. We are also seeing fog, mostly on the coast, but it is moving inland, and it's likely to remain foggy as the boundary layer cools. Right now, the visibility at KBOS is a quarter mile, with a 100 foot ceiling. KBED, 10 miles northwest, is reporting 1.5 miles with the ceiling at 400 feet overcast. I expect it to remain low tonight. You won't be able to see the Pru, and they could lose fly balls in the fog!

The wind will be blowing in, and seeing it will be in the low 50's, it will be cold and damp.

A great night for baseball!

Press Release: Fenway area weather update as of 3:45 p.m.

The current weather forecast (provided by the Red Sox private weather service, Meteorlogix) in the vicinity of Fenway Park calls for the light rain that is currently in the area to move out during the late afternoon hours. Light drizzle and mist is expected to remain in the area.

The Fenway Park gates will open at the regularly scheduled time of 5:05 p.m., and the Red Sox-Rays game is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. However, the Red Sox want to alert our fans to the current forecast for this evening.

This forecast is of course subject to change as the day progresses. Additional updates will be provided as necessary.

Shouldn't this be the easiest call for an ump to make?

Not easy enough, apparently.

Let's hope that run doesn't prove to be significant.

The way Beckett's been getting shafted lately - no run support - that would have been a key call to get right.

Gradually taking that back........

I'll agree with the radio guys - when J.D. Drew is on, his swing is NICE.

Manny's isn't bad either.

3-0

I'm still amazed that Eric Hinske got an RBI. Eric Hinske? Shocked. Flabbergasted. Stunned.

I think he got one in his Red Sox career, but you all may have to back me up on that. Oh, well. 4-1.

Actually 26. He already has 28 as a Devil Ray
BigSlick
This may be stating the obvious, but MDC sure is coming around.
TreeRol
Also stating the obvious: Sweet Jesus is Manny slow.

Next post: I hate to support an opposing player, but I'm with Upton here. This ump has sucked tonight.

Wuss. That's easy to do with a 5-1 lead after 7.5. What would you say if the game was tied?

(Actually I agree with you. I'm just trying to preform CPR on the game threads.)

That slide really was not bad at all. It was good hard baseball. Right after it happened they both even credited Coco with a good hard slide. God I hate ESPN!

Also, Iwamura blocked the bag on an earlier steal as if he was Mike Scioscia at the plate in his glory years. You don't do that at second. I wouldn't doubt if Tito gave him some instructions there. **** Iwamura, and Maddon.

Yeah I noticed that too. He completely blocked the bag, there was literally no where for Coco to go. I'm glad Iwamura got taken out. Serves him right!

I don't want to show that much support, because I thought that pitch was, if not a strike, then definitely in the "too close to take with 2 strikes" category.

But that was a ridiculously quick hook. And unless Upton has some fancy mouth contortion technique that I don't know about, then reading his lips in slow motion did not indicate to me that he said a magic enough magic word to get tossed that quickly. Ump was quick to take off his mask and pursue the argument, like he was with Pedroia earlier.

That's my least favorite page in the umpiring playbook. If you blow a call, you blow a call. And if a guy argues (blown call, or not), he argues. Let it go. If he gets in your face, fine, off with the mask and get in his. But it's not your job to be the instigator.

Actually, upon further review, it was Bartlett that blocked the bag with as much of his body as he could when Coco stole successfully in the sixth inning. I guess I'll have to say, being a homer, that Coco's late slide was retribution against the Rays' infield, or team, not Iwamura. Sutcliffe made a huge deal out of it, and more or less expects the Rays (what a stupid name, like, you can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay, or you can...remember that guy?) to throw at Coco tomorrow. I still think Coco did the right thing; make them think twice before trying to block the second base bag as if it was the plate, again.
