Royal Rooters > THE COOLER > ROYAL ROOTERS ARCHIVES > 2008 REGULAR SEASON GAME THREADS
RedSoxAnni
Game time: 3:55 pm

Scheduled starters: Miguel Batista (3-6, 5.90) v. Tim Wakefield (3-4, 4.50)

The game will be on FOX

Boston weather: 1 pm observation at KBOS: wind out of the east southeast at 8 mph, visibility 6 miles in haze, thin broken layer at 25,000 feet, temperature 72F, DP 62F

Forecast: Don't be fooled by the temperature at Logan! The wind is off the water, and the ocean is still at 50F. It's 15F warmer 10 miles inland, and I suspect it will be close to 90F at game time at Fenway. The dew point is moving into the "very uncomfortable range". The high thin clouds are not going to provide much shelter from the sun, so if you're not "under cover" wear a hat!

At 1 pm, it was 87F at both Bedford and Norwood...

The wind is ESE at Logan, but it is southwest inland, and will likely be southwest at Fenway. That's blowing out toward left.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Wonder if anyone else will be in the game thread tonight. Kind of defeats the purpose if no one posts. Oh well.

Blowing out to left does not bode well for Wake, but Mr. Batista does not exactly strike fear in the hearts of the opposition. Do we have anyone left on the team who can hit it out? Yes, Mike Lowell and Kevin Youklis, I'm talking to you.

Meanwhile, down in New York...

Jose Guillen hit a grand slam off Pettitte in the seventh. 10-6 KC.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Ichiro hits the ball ten feet for a single, followed by a SB and a walk. Oh boy...

Edit: After which Wake makes it look easy.
ghostoffoxx
Well, it looks like Manny just needed to get the 500th one off his back. He has absolutely exploded ever since...
GreenBud
I'm surprised the ball didn't explode on that one.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Looks like the flutterball is on today!

Thanks Fox. Really enjoying the Cubs-Dodgers game in on Fox 5/DC today.

This Cubs/Dodgers game is a real thriller!

That's all I get on my TV today. sad.gif

EDIT: Wow. 2 minutes too late.
SoxAroundTheWorld
For those watching the Cubs-Dodgers, did you know that Raul Ibanez has more RBIs since 2006 than Manny Ramirez? I didn't. And he just got two more to match the two Manny got in the 1st.

I gotta wonder just how many runs the Sox lineup can manage this afternoon. Moss-Cash-Cora-Crisp-Lugo makes me want to switch to Cubs-Dodgers...

Same here. Thanks Fox.

I'm watching. The bottom of the order boys generated a couple of runs in the 4th, and Wake is doing his thing. I suspect it's a bit better than Cubs-Dodgers. smile.gif

Well, if I can't see the Sox, I'll watch D-Lowe pitch, and root for him to win. I like to see Zambrano lose also, but that's just me. Nice weather in NorCal, and in LA too, compared to that hot muggy shite back east.
SoxAroundTheWorld
J.D. continues to roll. I like him more this year than I did last...

Well, there's no joy in winning 12-11 games unless you're Johnny Damon, who went 6-for-6 today and is now hitting .326 for the season.

Pettitte was awful and Girardi left him in an inning too long on a muggy day.

All's well that ends well. mellow.gif
SoxAroundTheWorld
Hats off to Wake. Wonder why Lowell is in. If you are going to give him the day off, shouldn't you give him the WHOLE day off.

Mark Lowe, eh? Any relation to Derek?

And VERY nice to see Jacoby pinch run. If they thought there was any chance of him going on the DL, they wouldn't want to reset the clock by using him now.
Malzone64
One more LA - Cubs item: Carlos Zambrano destroyed the dugout, among other things, throwing at least two big Gatorade containers, one of which hit the back of the bench some Cubbies were sitting on. They jumped. Youkilis is a mere, mere, rookie amateur compared with Zambrano when it comes to dugout rage.

And, Mikey comes through too.

Edit, how did Ellsbury not score on a double? I know he was on first, but that's like second to most other runners. mellow.gif

It was right down the line in left, so not all that far from third. I also had the feeling he got a bit of a bad jump. Still...Paps? Really? Sure hope they won't need him tomorrow!

Youks makes an error at 1st base for the first time in 233 straight games. I feel like my kitten just died... sad.gif

Just checked in on this one...is my computer correct in telling me that Papelbon is in to close out the game with a 35 run lead? (Wait...my math was off. 9 run lead?)

Yes, indeedy. And, surprise surprise, he gave up a (n unearned) run. Why???

But all is well and the water is dirty. G'night all.

I know. If I were Tito, I'd leave him out of games like this. I know he needs work (hadn't pitched since Tuesday), could get rusty like any other pitcher, but how rusty? What if he had one of those rare off days and got hit hard or couldn't get the ball over? T'would leave a bit of a bad taste after an overall good day. I'm being the over-anal, nitpicking, never satisfied, pre-2004 Red Sox fan here.

Bat Masterson tomorrow. Knock Bedard's left arm off with a liner and beat him over the head with it. Youks can have the honor on that one. enraged.gif laugh.gif

I see Youkilis was charged with an error in the ninth after moving to first base...is this the end of his record streak? I think his first error of the season happened while he was at third base? If so, good on yer, Youks. That was a hell of a streak.

I wasn't watching the game (especially after the Sox scored to put the game away -- I'm surprised they didn't put it away in the 1st... smile.gif ) b/c I had to go grocery shopping...

...but I wouldn't be surprised if Ichiro fielded THAT ball, too. Ibanez has to be the #1 slowest LFer for all 30 teams. Ichiro has to patrole a little of RF, all of his CF, and most of LF because of Ibanez fielding LF like a catcher runs. I'm surprised all the pitchers don't boycott until management gets Ibanez off the field and into the dugout doing some slightly less spectacular imitation of Edgar Martinez. And put Vidro permanently at the far end of the bench with the other fringe scrubs.
