OK, my turn to say 'what happened to the game threads?', and I will do my best today to get a spark going for them. I don't usually post in game threads unless I can watch the game. Barring a last minute switch, Fox has the game on in NorCal. You go Timmeh! That ump behind you shall remain unknown.

Red Sox Fan2
Wakefield vs. Volquez, this should be an interesting game...
RedSoxAnni
Timmy's got an ERA of 2.05 in his last three starts, so if the knuckler is "on", this could be an interesting game.

Ellsbury, all on his own! 1 - 0.
Renton
Volquez showing his wildness early. That'll help with Manny out. A punchless offense.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Manny and Tizzle out. Oh boy.

Having watched too much soccer recently, I've gotten used to low scoring finals. 1-0 works for me. Go get 'em, Timmah!
TreeRol
Wow, thanks to Phillips for running out of a run.

Remy on Fox? WTF?
SoxAroundTheWorld
That was some interesting baserunning, which immediately bites the Reds in the butt. But so much for the 1-0.

So, I'm the only one reading a game thread during a game. Gonna kind of make it hard to get an exchange going...

Edit: Welcome, TreeRol!
ivebeentruped
That was a bizarre inning.
Cambridge
Did they really just shoot off fireworks after a Reds home run? Wow. Do the Reds aspire to be a minor league team?
Malzone64
I thought Phillips lost his mind for a second. :...: I could have hit that one out, Tim. Beer league Dunn.

The site went down for a bit, I think. I've been on it. thumbsup.gif
SoxAroundTheWorld
Jacoby looked slow getting to first on that one. When the fielder booted the ball, I thought for sure JE would beat it out, but it still wasn't even close. Please don't tell me he's lame...
ivebeentruped
Why do I get the feeling that that play would not have been made by Ramirez?

Manny's pretty good at going back on balls. He'd have caught it - just wouldn't have bothered to look at it.

J.D.'s leading a charmed life these days. I'll take the run any way I can get it.

Ellsbury's fine. His liner to second was just that. Second baseman had the ball in his hand as soon as if it had been a hard grounder. I was thinking if Ells hit Drew's ball, it might have been an ITPHR.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Coco just can't get it out any more. Sigh!

Bunt Wake? I would...

Edit: Well that should have been better. Ells looked bad in that at bat. Think I'm going to keep pushing the "he's hurt" rumor, just to liven up the conversation here...

Ells swung at ball four. This Volquez is wild. Too bad we don't have the disciplined Manny in there.
Renton
Cora is the only person who has actually hit the ball well today, Drew's triple was just a lazy fly ball.

A friend of mine who's a Reds fan is wondering if Bako forgot what team he plays for today. I agree, he's been abysmal. Maybe he thinks once a pitched ball hits the ground its a dead ball.

That would explain a lot.

Timmah gettin' it done. Now, boys, let's remember where the strike zone is, 'Kay?
Malzone64
Get some more runs for Wake. Use that word again: wake up Pedroia!
SoxAroundTheWorld
DP shows the wheels!
ivebeentruped
Ouch.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Youk comes through!

I don't often say something nice about Fox, but I like their (money-saving) idea of using one announcer from each team. Gives a nice mix of perspectives. Brennaman has been good, and Remy is doing his thing. Now if only they could get rid of that Rosenthal guy. Where's Heidi?

Got one more run, but this home plate ump is calling some balls off the plate as strikes against the Red Sox. Wish Fox had the ESPN K-zone. Hold'em Wake. 57 pitches only thru 5.

That last strike to Griffey broke like a curveball, in to the left handed hitter. I've never seen a curve with no spin on it. tongue.gif

I think he's been generous to both pitchers. Either that, or he can't tell where the flutterball is headed, either.

You're probably right, and Pedroia continues to swing at bad pitches. That kid looks a tad screwed up this year. There used to be a thing called the sophomore slump.
Renton
Enough with the stupid fireworks.

Really. Could hardly see the following at bat through all the smoke. How cheesy!
Malzone64
I'd leave Wake in for one more inning. Other than the really experienced hitters, none of these guys act like they've ever seen a knuckler.
ivebeentruped
Hmm, Lowell was a dead duck on that one.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Lowell looked like Millar running the bases on that one.

Yes, let Wake pitch another one.

Lowell did hit an outside pitch (ball) for the fourth run ribbie. Smart hitter. Better be swinging in case he calls it. Could have used that fifth run.
Renton
Okajima might have the worst pick off move of any lefty I've ever seen.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Not real happy to see Oki here (which is a new feeling that I don't like). C'mon, Hideki.

Generous strike call there...
ivebeentruped
Double switch with Varitek?

Edit: Or just bring in the inferior pitcher, that works too.
RedSoxAnni
Well, at least he had Okajima on a short leash this time.

I would have let Wake start this inning. Now we've got to work out of a jam.

Tek is apparently not close to game shape today - strep throat will do that to you. Highly contagious, too. So, on top of our DL problems, let's do another round of "whose turn is it to be sick today."

MDC in to put out Oki's flames. The opposite of what worked last year, but if it works now, all is good. Why, oh why, did Terry pull Wake???

Edit: Thanks, Junior!
ivebeentruped
I don't like this...

Edit: I should not like it more often.
RedSoxAnni
Griffey swinging on 3-0 and into a double play. Phew...
SoxAroundTheWorld
Nice to see DP with a couple of hits.

Nail it down, Paps!

No drama Paps, please.
ivebeentruped
Yeah, this one is all Paps. This game has been bizarre and ridiculous, and it's time for Paps to restore order.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Paps third on the all-time Sox saves list? Already? Mercy. Guess that means the Sox have never had a consistent closer for more than a season or two. Hmm...

Goddamn it!
