Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled Starters: Bartolo Colon (4-1, 3.41) v. Cole Hamels (6-4, 3.27)

The game will be on NESN and on ESPN

Philadelphia weather: 4 pm observation at KPHL: Wind out of the southwest at 12 mph with gusts to 23 mph, visibility 10 miles, scattered clouds at 7,000 and 8,000 feet, temperature 89F, DP 58F

Forecast: There's a cold front moving from the eastern Great Lakes area toward the southeast, and there have been severe thunderstorms forming ahead of the front. Some severe storms have already hit in central PA and NY. There's a good chance for a rainstorm or thunderstorm in the Philadelphia area before 9-10 pm. Some of the storms this afternoon have had strong winds and one-inch hail. At 4:30 pm, there was a line of storms between Scranton and State College, moving southeast, so it could be in the Philadelphia area right before the game. I think they'll play, but there could be a rain delay.

6 pm weather observation at KPHL: Wind out of the west at 21 mph with gusts to 29 mph, visibility 10 miles, few clouds at 6,000 feet, broken layer at 14,000 feet, overcast layer at 20,000 feet, temperature 81F, DP 57F

The first line of storms is going to stay north of Philadelphia, but there's another line behind it that could be a problem in about an hour to 90 minutes.

RedSoxAnni
There's a change in the lineup. Youk is out with back spasms, so Casey is playing first. Varitek is hitting sixth, and Casey seventh.

Not a great start. I'll be surprised if Colon makes it through the second.

His fastball hasn't exceeded 86 on the ESPN gun. I thought he was hitting low - mid 90s in previous games. sad.gif

ESPN is using the Phillies PitchFX which is also registering Hamels low-- Colon's true velocity was around 89-90 mph that inning I figure (assuming Hamels works in the low 90's normally).

Still, he has zilch for command.

Bring back Buchholz.
czar
At least Howard is offsetting Colon's awfulness fantasy team wise.

If we only had a long man in the pen...

Their pitching and offense is better than ours tonight.
Malzone64
Just eat some more innings Bart (I think he's good at eating stuff). Save the bullpen.
RedSoxAnni
Of course, we've stranded six baserunners so far, four of them by Colon!

Hamels reminds me a little of Jon Lester, or at least when Jon has his control. That's a good thing for Lester.

I think it's become a ballgame again.

Mike Timlin disagrees.

Leephus Pitch
Memo to Tito, Theo, et al:

Timlin is done.
rominer
Wow. I think the only difference between Mike Timlin and a batting practice pitcher tonight is that the BP pitcher might sometimes get guys out.
Leephus Pitch
Understatement of the night from Remy, as Timlin was being removed:

"Seems like a little too late for this move, huh?"
Renton
Timlin allowed 4 runs, is responsible for two guys on base, and the only outs he got was a sac bunt and a check swing ground ball.

NL Baseball sucks. You can't get any damn rallies going because you're always going to have Bartolo ****ing Colon up with 2 out and RISP. Just a waste.
BigSlick
For the next two days if Timlin comes in with the Sox up or down by less than 8 I will personnaly run on the field and do everything in my power to prevent him from reaching the mound.
Renton
Lost in all of this is that Ellsbury couldn't make that diving catch in centerfield. He sucks and needs to go.
