Masterson struggled early on, then settled down for two innings. His ball is moving well, but he doesn't have good control yet. Now he's in trouble in the 5th...
Didn't realize until just now that they are playing a day game - and I missed seven runs, dammit! J.D. has gone completely insane - loving it!
If Masterson can get out of this with just the one run...

Lopez went out to pitch, but the Phillies put Bruntlett in to pinch hit, which is why Francona went to Hansen. And then, of course, Bruntlett got a hit off Hansen

Well, Manny, Youkilis, and Crisp are all sitting today, so yeah, there is a pretty thin bench if you want to avoid using those guys. With the thin bench, a 5 run lead, and a lefty coming up, I can see why Francona kept Lopez in. He only removed him because an offensive substitution by the Phillies put him up against a right hander to start the inning.

Another nice efficient ninth inning for Paps (even if strike three was really ball four). Nice to take 2 out of 3 from another first place team in their ballpark. And nice to go 4-2 on a road trip. Enjoy the day off boys.
