Pages: 1, 2
RedSoxAnni
Game time: 1:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Justin Masterson (3-1, 2.90) v. Kyle Kendrick (6-2, 4.54)

The game will be on NESN

Philadelphia weather: 11 am observation at KPHL: wind out of the west at 10 mph, visibility 10 miles, few clouds at 4,800 feet, scattered clouds at 9,000 feet, temperature 71F, DP 50F

Forecast: The circulation around the low to the north is causing some disturbances in the area, and there's a chance of showers and possibly thundershowers throughout the afternoon. At 11 am there were some showers in north central PA, along the NY border, but that was it. The air mass is still pretty dry, so there's a good chance we get through the game without any rain. It will be cool and the wind will be blowing out toward right.

No Manny, no Youkilis
RedSoxAnni
Top of the first

Ellsbury singled
Pedroia singled
Drew homered to deep right center
Lowell homered

4-0 Sox!

And Casey grounded out to second for the first out...

And basketball is over... Time to get back into the Game Thread!
GreenMountainSoxFan
Just turned the game on in time to see Lowell's home run. This gave me happiness.
Red Sox Fan2
Pfft. Who needs Ortiz, Manny, and Youkilis when we got JD Drew? rolleyes.gif
GreenMountainSoxFan
Good thing they built an early lead. Masterson vs. the lefty-heavy Phillies lineup could be a problem this game.

I have a password for MLBtv, yet, I can't watch at work because I can't download a codec, because I don't have Admin rights to do so. I'm listening and game daying, but still, what kind of job doesn't let you watch the game live?

I needs to call my old pals in IT and see if they can't hook me up!
GreenMountainSoxFan
Drew is insane. That is all.

edit: Nice try Utley.

Traded, maybe?
Yazfest
Well this is interesting. Coco was replaced. Anyone hear anything? Any speculation from the broadcasters?
VoteRiceIn
OK, Tek batted for himself & Moss is now pinch hitting for Coco.......and gets a hit!
Two runs score, now: 6-1
heinie manush
On NESN they showed a clip of Crisp looking at his left hand/wrist when he was coming in off the field.

At my work the IT department blocked all personal email accounts(gmail, hotmail, yahoo).
Manny's ps2
Damn him! I was sure it meant he was traded. He better not have gimpy wrist now!

<random> For those watching the phillies broadcast: The bird they just showed flying around the infield is an Eastern Kingbird. It is a type of flycatcher. </random>

Moss goes to LF & Ellsbury slides over to CF.

The Philly announcers only mentioned that they themselves haven't recv'd word yet as to why Coco was removed from the game.

Thanks much chief!

Actually the links don't work, but I do believe the site will come in handy! So my love, while less enthusiastic is still present in a more subtle way...

JD with a single to drive in Pedroia. 7-1 Sox

Take your time healing up Papi, we have your 3 spot covered quite nicely for now.

Don't feel strange. My awesomeness can be overpowering.

edit: damn. well my awesomeness can be moderately helpful
Flaming Mo
Masterson struggled early on, then settled down for two innings. His ball is moving well, but he doesn't have good control yet. Now he's in trouble in the 5th...
SoxAroundTheWorld

Didn't realize until just now that they are playing a day game - and I missed seven runs, dammit! J.D. has gone completely insane - loving it!

If Masterson can get out of this with just the one run...
Flaming Mo
Great job by Masterson getting out of it and nice play by Casey again.

Or were you waiting to see if he could do it before deciding?

He seems to enjoy pitching at the MLB level.

Drew 4-4!!
Never thought I'd be excited to see JD coming up to take an at bat.

Tek now 0 for his last 11......

This JD Drew streak is just absurd now. I absolutely love it.

Never had a doubt! wink.gif

A HR against Rudy would be nice...you know, for old times' sake.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Javier Lopez batting? Really? How many batters does Terry think he'll face in the 7th? Hate to give away an at bat like that. Where's Aardvark? Hansen? Anyone? (Except Timlin - a five run lead is not safe for him.)

I don't mind NL baseball - just don't like that Tito gave up on that inning.

Edit: And Tito pulls him anyway. Is our bench so thin that we have to let a pitcher bat, only to pull him before he throws another pitch? Yikes!

Lopez went out to pitch, but the Phillies put Bruntlett in to pinch hit, which is why Francona went to Hansen. And then, of course, Bruntlett got a hit off Hansen enraged.gif

Well, Manny, Youkilis, and Crisp are all sitting today, so yeah, there is a pretty thin bench if you want to avoid using those guys. With the thin bench, a 5 run lead, and a lefty coming up, I can see why Francona kept Lopez in. He only removed him because an offensive substitution by the Phillies put him up against a right hander to start the inning.

edt: what Anni said.

Every time Hansen starts to loot like he might be a viable guy out of the pen he goes and lays a turd like this...........

Pulled w/o recording an out.

Flaming Mo
Terrible showing by Hansen, just terrible...

Tying run at the plate - chrissake you've got to be kidding me.

If the bull-shit pen losses this win for Masterson I'm going to punch a co-worker in the face!Edit: Chase Utley is like 0 for his last 58......I don't have a good feeling about this

Nice work Manny.

RedSoxAnni
This started out as a very uncomfortable five-run lead, and Hansen managed to turn it into an extremely uncomfortable three-run lead.

Note to Theo: July 31 is coming. Middle relief....
67YazWithSideburns
I remember feeling mildly disappointed about not getting him at the time but right now Kerry Wood would be helping out our pen in a huge way. Alas.

Problem is middle relief is a crap-shoot at the best of times, we could be in tough at the deadline insofar as finding some parts.

VoteRiceIn
The Stopper, I mean MDC is out there for the 8th...1 pitch 1 out.

Radio announcers say Papelbon is already warming. Esp. considering that there's an off day tomorrow, Paps maybe looking at 1+ innings of work today if MDC gets into any trouble.

pre-edit/edit: MDC got us 2 outs now.......1 more.......
SoxAroundTheWorld
MDC! I forgot all about MDC. Nice job picking up Hansen and providing the bridge to Paps. With the off day tomorrow, no problem using the closer again.
VoteRiceIn
MDC will never know it, but he's today's winner of my 'Favorite Player of the Game' award....

...unless JD comes up again (doubtful) and hits another jack....
....or Paps comes in & strikes out the side on 9 pitches in the 9th....
....or Coco comes out of the clubhouse in street clothes and beats the shit out of 'Phillie Phanatic' or any of their fans
SoxAroundTheWorld
Another nice efficient ninth inning for Paps (even if strike three was really ball four). Nice to take 2 out of 3 from another first place team in their ballpark. And nice to go 4-2 on a road trip. Enjoy the day off boys.

The water it is dirty!
GreenMountainSoxFan
Water. Creeping back to .500 on the road. Excellent game for Drew and Delcarmen. Nice work by Varitek getting Masterson through 5 with some command issues.
