According to Stark's latest column, Theo is in the last year of hos contract? If that is the truth, will he be looking to leave again or is Lucky's and Theo's previous problems all but resolved and are living in harmony?

Discuss

"• The all-stars (Brian Cashman, Theo Epstein, Kevin Towers): Cashman and Epstein are both in the last year of their respective contracts, so you never know."

If that's the case, then Theo had better hit the pavement and sign some more hos, and fast. We don't want Red Sox fans to be without hos.

Maybe he'll quit and come back a month later again.

Yeah, he's in the last year of his contract...if he isn't extended it will be a bad thing, to be sure. It's not that everything he touches turns into gold, but a good GM is so very hard to find it seems.

How much of a role does he have regarding the draft? I assume it's rather large and should be taken into consideration when evaluating him.

if this is to be believed, the GM doesn't have as much input there as we think.

I thought that Cherington and Hoyer had a lot of input on the draft, but obviously the buck stops with Epstein (or maybe not so obviously given Lucky's presence). It would be nice to get him extended. Good GMs are hard to come by.

I would rather lose Beckett, Ellsbury and Papelbon than Theo.

Not to worry. I can't imagine there's any chance JWH lets Theo walk. I also can't imagine there's any chance that Theo wants to walk.

One concern, though: I thought that after the fiasco that unfolded with his last contract, the sides agreed they would stop leaking to the media. Remember that it was a planted CHB column that ran just as Theo was about to re-sign that set him off and made him back out. Now we have Jayson Stark getting inside information that Theo is in the last year of his contract. Someone obviously gave Stark that information. Does the mistrust start up all over again, igniting another pissing match?

Wait, it's widely known that he's in the last year of his contract...that's not a "leak" by any means. When he was extended back in 2005 it was public info that he was extended three years.

Maybe I'm wrong, (Wait, what am I saying? I'm never wrong about anything. wink.gif), but I thought they kept the length of his contract a secret in order to avoid a lot of public speculation about his status when the time to renew drew closer.

Gibbons out, Cito back.

Back to your rather lose those players than Theo, I think Theo is great, but it could take years to replace those kind of players. I can't believe one of, or some combination of those three amigos we got a brief glimpse of when Theo walked before couldn't keep the GM ship on course.

That was before the contract talks broke down not after. It was kept private and was never noted otherwise.

See the 24RedSox post just above this one. I'm pretty sure that when he returned post-blowup, they never announced the length of contract.
