Royal Rooters > THE COOLER > ROYAL ROOTERS ARCHIVES > 2008 REGULAR SEASON GAME THREADS
RedSoxAnni
Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Kyle Lohse (8-2, 3.77) v. Tim Wakefield (4-4, 4.19)

The game will be on NESN.

Boston weather: 3 pm observation at KBOS: wind out of the southwest at 17 mph, visibility 10 miles, broken layers at 6,000 and 9,000 feet, temperature 77F, DP 50F

Forecast: There's a chance of showers and possibly thundershowers this evening, but they won't result in cancellation of the game. There could be a rain delay. Cool air aloft is causing instability, and there have been isolated showers popping up north and west of Boston since late morning. Any rain we get tonight won't last long.

It will be a warm evening, with the wind blowing out toward left/left center.

And don't forget the Summer Solstice at 7:59 pm EDT.

Against the Cardinals I would prefer a lunar eclipse, but I guess anything of astrological significance will work.

I concur with BigSlick, we need some good 'ol 2004 mojo to kick this weekend into gear.

There's going to be a rain delay, but not for very long. Probably a half hour to 45 minutes before this cell moves to the east.

That pre-game ceremony was awesome, now its time to beat the bag out of the Cardinals like it was 2004 all over again

Meanwhile, to keep us entertained, the Duck Boats arrived with the 2008 World Champion Boston Celtics.

What a great sight indeed.

Three NBA Championship trophies on one Duck.

Who throws out the first pitch?

The music could have been better. "Shake Your Booty" and the song from The Karate Kid? thumbdown.gif

I think Pierce is going to throw out the first pitch.

Yep, Danny brought his two.

Twas a bling, bling festival. thumbsup.gif

Manny DelCarmen needs to focus on pitching, and not dancing like Mili Vanilli....I expect this from Papelbon

First pitch will be at 8:15 pm.

OK, basketball's over. Where's everybody? Julio with 2 E and HR... no comments?

When you talk about redemption you talk Lugo, man. First homer of the year for him!

Yeah, these game threads have been very quiet for a while. I have an excuse at least: university is killing my free time.

The game's becoming frustrating. I hope Wake settles.

Yeah, but it's not Wake's fault entirely. If we keep loading the bases and don't score, nothing good is gonna come out of it.

Go Drew!

Hey, does anyone know how Manny feels playing as DH? I heard some guys don't like it, because it takes some of the adrenaline off.

Pathetic inning.

This game sucks.

Is Manny ever going to move up the grand-slam list?

He doesn't like it. His stats as DH are very good, but IIRC, he has said in the past that he doesn't like it.
However, that may be his faith after this season if we don't pick up his options... I don't think anybody's gonna take him for his D.

2 Ab's with the bases loaded and we have a GIDP and a K.

Effing awful if this score holds.

And then the homer given up by Oki...........

Frustrating night.

Okajima not looking too good.
BamaBoSox
Train wrecks. Puppies being kicked. Good beer being poured down teh drain.

What do these have in common you might ask? I'd rather watch all of them multiple times than see most of Oki's June appearances.

Still, we're only down by two. And the ability of this team to stay atop the best in MLB without Matsuzaka, Papi and Schilling, and Beckett not being himself, and so many small injuries, while Lester, Masterson, Buchholz and Lowrie showed they can be huge, makes me very positive about the future.

And I forgot about Ellsbury. Seeing him on base is the most beautiful thing you can enjoy.
And Pedroia kicks serious ass.
And Drew is finding himself, as i called.

This team rocks.
Boss
Aardsma very impessive. K's the side, hitting 98 with his last pitch. If he can keep the BB's down, what an awesome pickup.

I like him too, but if he is here to stay we gotta get him some nickname. Any thoughts?

What a nice way to start the comeback! Double by Peds!

No question this is a great, fun team to watch. Just that this one game is awful. Hopefully Aardsma and Pedroia just started something worth while.

Than JD Drew strikes out...

Nail-biter....

So close... But I have to disagree with you, RSF2. I thought the game was good, just the result was awful. I like tight, emocional games. If Youk had put that ball in the stands everything would feel different.
BamaBoSox
Well, that sucked harder than an East St. Louis whore.

How do you lose to ****ign Kyle Lohse?

I'll admit I get too overly emotional, but there is nothing more satisfying than a nail-biter. However, this game featured 2 bases loaded scenarios, one with no outs and I believe the other with 1 out yet the Sox couldn't muster much of anything.

I have no clue, 8 other clubs are wondering the same thing.

I didn't see the game today, just the boxscore, but it sure seems like it's time to hand the 8th inning spot to Aardsma. The only thing that was killing him was walks and he looks like he has solved that problem.
