Game time: 1:35 pm EDT
Scheduled starters: Joel Pineiro (2-3, 4.02) v. Jon Lester (6-3, 3.18)
The game will be on NESN and on TBS
Boston weather: 11 am observation at KBOS: Wind out of the south at 9 mph, visibility 4 miles in haze, scattered clouds at 2,300 feet, temperature 78F, DP 66F
Forecast: Unsettled... There's a slow-moving cold front out along the eastern edge of Lake Erie moving east, and a warm front to our south off the coast extending through the middle Atlantic states. Right now, there's a line of thunderstorms along the MA/VT/NY border, and another line forming around New London. Everything is slowly moving toward the east northeast. We've had just enough sun out in eastern Massachusetts to start fueling some convection. The air mass is very moist, and there's a good chance for a couple strong thunderstorms this afternoon.
Bring a raincoat. And score early and often! There's a good chance that we won't get through this game without some rain.

Rain delay!
It isn't raining in Boston yet, but there's a line of strong storms to the southwest moving northeast. This is the line that was forming between New London and Providence an hour ago. The strongest cells will pass west of Boston, but Fenway will get rain.
It looks like about an hour delay. There's been enough heating this morning to fire off more storms in the area, so things could get interesting trying to get this game in. They are wise not to start it because they might not get an inning in.

A Bill Engvall sitcom series show just came on TBS, but it was just broken into saying 2:25 first pitch. Actually, Engvall is probably more entertaining than Buck Martinez

had been.

In his entire time in Boston did Piniero ever pitch 2 1/3 scoreless innings?
Consecutively, I mean.

Maybe not, but if so it's because Boston didn't let him start, according to Buck M. I was thinking that St. Louis' pitching coach, Dave Duncan, who's been with LaRussa since the Oakland days, has to be pretty f'in good.

I agree about Duncan - especially this year with the scrap-heap rotation they've got and the way they've performed. Lohse didn't exactly have teams banging down his door this off season and look at him.

No, in 2004 the Sox had Pedro and Nomar, and I had less body hair. Those were the times.

I know that you're a relative noob around here, Westlake, so I'm just going to let you know that you should search for the gun ownership threads before you start showing up at our houses to make good on your threat.

Wow paps first walk at home scores on another sailer. Just another reason why stranger things happen in Day games. Coco looked dumpfounded just like Ankiel did. We get some free baseball.
Let's not get swept.

Edit: And perhaps there's a bit of good pitching too. Isringhausen was getting nasty there.

Cora deserves to be DFA'd for that at bat. He swings at a ball that might have hit him if he just stood there. I thought he was supposed to be smart.

That must be a record. Three straight extra innings with a double to lead off and nary a run.
