This pitching matchup could have happened before I was born.

Well not quite, but close.
cyclone603
bottom of the 5th and Wakefield has been effective up to this point, which is good to see.
Renton
Good call on staying at 3rd, Julio. That would have been an easy run.
cyclone603
Wake's good through 6. Impressive tonight.

Wow. I've been in and out of the room...and I totally thought he scored. I saw the play, I saw Hudson laying on the ground trying to make the play, throwing too late to first...and I thought it was a given that Lugo scored. He could have walked home on that.

Wow.

Thanks for the good news.

I should pay attention more.

So should Julio, apparently.
ivebeentruped
It was Suppan-esque.
cyclone603
I would take Wake out after this inning, you can start to see the backs just waiting on it now.

Fenway perplexes Young and Upton.

Kevin Cash: BMF, GAM, or both? Discuss.

Can anyone raise stats on Wakefield's starts against NL teams? He seems to have a good record at that. If so, it can mean that just the fact that we have him make other clubs in the AL to change their strategy all year, preparing hitters to hit knuckleballs. I hope he stays for later and later in this team.
BobHeise
Great job by Wakes....again. He's been having a very solid year for us, and it's turned out to be essential. We're now exactly halfway through the season with a record of 49-32. That's with assorted minot injuries and one big one to Ortiz. I'll take that same record in the second half.

Yay, cheap save.

Dirty Water.

I had to look it up. Cheap save indeed. Paps deserves it though, if for no other reason than post-season 2007.

2. He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, at bat or on deck

Yeah, Paps is the best rookie we grew so far as I can remember in these years. A minor league starting pitcher turned into an All-Star closer so fast I couldn't believe it. Anyone remembers how many saves he had before giving up a single earned run as a closer? He is the man.

The Sox are 1 game behind last years pace at the halfway mark. In 2007 they were 50-31 and held a 10.5 game lead in the division. Considering the injuries to Beckett, Matsuzaka, Schilling, Buchholz, Ortiz and Lowell, 1 game off of last years pace is pretty damn impressive.

No offense, but this isn't one of your better takes on English. I've never really noticed a language gap before, but this is like "newbie who lasts for 7 posts before being run off the board by Caspir" territory.

That said: Taking the lazy way out and not narrowing things down to Wakefield vs. the NL as Red Sox pitcher...his overall interleague ERA is 4.77, which is actually a fair bit worse than his career mark of 4.33. I don't know how much of that is with the Pirates and how much with the Sox, of course.

Perhaps our resident database wiz (thanman...2) can be a bit more precise.

We need to go 2-2 over the final four games of June to match the April and May win totals of 17. 17 wins a month translates to 102 total. Of course, 17 in July is a bit tougher with the All Star Break. It's not a bad pace to be on, anyway. Let's get there, and worry about July in July.
