Game time: 8:05 pm EDT, 7:05 pm CDT

Scheduled starters: Daisuke Matsuzaka (8-1, 3.46) v. Runelvys Hernandez (no record)

The game will be on NESN.

Houston weather: 3 pm CDT observation at KHOU: Wind out of the southeast at 13 mph, visibility 10 miles, scattered clouds at 4,500 and 25,000 feet, temperature 90F, DP 73F

Forecast: It will be hot and humid, and there's a chance of rain or thunderstorms, but they have a roof. If the roof is open, the wind will be blowing out.
Renton
They almost never have the roof open for a game in the summer, and if they do, it won't be until the 8th inning or so.

Woo! I'll be at all 3 games this weekend. I'm in downtown Houston right now, so it's about time to head down near the park and pay $4 a beer instead of $8 inside Minute Maid.

Was Hernandez in the Sox organization last year or am I just imagining that? I thought I remembered him in Pawtucket for a while.

Yes he was... We signed him to a minor league contract and assigned him to Pawtucket. He took the "out clause" in his contract because he wasn't on the major league roster by June 1.

Yes he was but he never saw the light of day with the big club. He was 0 - 3 in '07 but with decent other stats with Pawtucket. Sox released him. He was horrible with AAA Indy in the Pirates system this year, but decent with Round Rock (Houston) and I guess they just called him up. Everything you ever wanted to know about Runelvys Hernandez, but were afraid to ask.

Edit, Anni had it right with the out clause.
Jack Hayden
I'm somewhat surprised that Hernandez never had more big league success. IIRC, he was at one point touted as having ace quality stuff. TINSTAAPP, I suppose.

Just to make it so that this is not the #1 google search today...

There is No Such Thing As A Pitching Prospect

Hopefully the courts will view this as a completed community service.

Dude, if I could influence the google search counts like that, I would quit my job in a second and retire on my advertising consultant fees.

He didn't even get the single inning K record. I'm not impressed. smokin.gif

Hey guys, what are the chances Matsuz gets to be an All-Star this mid-season? He missed some playing time, but he still has a good record, ERA and all of that.

Has anyone seen how Gameday is looking now? Video-gamey-like.

Chances are slim to none.
I'm still trying to see what the benefit of the new gameday is... it is some sort of fake 3d, but what's the point of having those additional views??? They just suck.

EDIT: And every ball hit to left or center looks like a HR...
John F.
All the boys at AstrosFans.net want to wish you guys good luck and try not to beat up our new pitcher his first game here. He's looking good so far but it is still early.I love Pedroia.. I love to see small guys getting it done.

Earlier in the season I said JD apparently has sold his soul to the devil.... Now I'm sure. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
Please, tell me who would've believed me this time last year that Drew would be tied with Manny for homers and we'd have such huge confidence in him coming up to the plate?
I know he sees a lot more good pitches batting 3rd, but I just can't believe the transformation.
rominer
Walk, don't Runelvys.

Or something like that.
samba guy
Keep it cool Dice-K...

Yay!
samba guy
Why he's out already? Injury?
samba guy
Did you know Pedroia is 15-30 in his last 8 games?

And why doesn't anybody answer my question?
rominer
I don't know the answer. Wasn't home when they took him out. Maybe it was just to end on a high note after a terrible first outing back from the DL. Hopefully.
samba guy
Terry made the right move bringing in Papelbon. You don't play around with Berkman.

I waan't watching at that point either, but they probably also don't want him throwing too many pitches. He did only have 1 inning pitched in the last 4 weeks or so. He'll be back over 100 pitches in his next start or two.
samba guy
Baseball is funny. Youk got 4 useless hits, because he didn't bring anyone home nor got brought home.

Not to start another argument with you about a starting pitcher, but the guy is 9-1 with a 3.21 ERA. Also, don't forget who picks the pitchers for the All Star game.

I put his chances at 95%.
