This is just strange. Why is it that the suspect is threatening only Red Sox black and latin players? I can see this person being a sick racist freak, but to only threaten one team? Why are the black and latin players on the Rays safe?

I hope this person is caught and thrown into a cell with black and/or latin inmates.

You should probably get ready for more and more stories like these. Not just about the Red Sox, but society in general.
I read an article a few weeks ago about how hate groups, militias, etc. who were common enough during the Clinton years are starting to come out of the woodwork again as the Democrats are poised to win the white house. The Dems nomination of a black man is being used as a recruitment tool, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

It may also be a sign of the economic times (see the 'KKK' during the US depression era as an example). It's the 'minorities are taking our jobs' mentality. It's not just the US either, as the world economy is now suffering, this mentality is now becoming much more prevalent in Europe & even Africa today (see the recent riots in South Africa).

However, until we know the contents of this letter, we don't know what served as motivation for this whack job.

Maybe they can just make him the teams traveling secretary.

I wonder how many similarly stupid threats go unreported? I would think that this kind of stuff must happen fairly frequently. It's that much more disturbing when it's not just "crazy person" but "crazy racist person." I guess you just hope/assume that nothing bad comes of it; that whatever precautions need to be taken will be taken; and that if this is anything more than some random loser trying to get a cheap laugh, there's enough there for investigators to find the guy.

And take him out. I'm not sure the world has any real pressing need to have people like this sharing our finite supply of clean air and water.

Any ways, the thing I still don't understand is why the Sox, and the Sox alone. Did black/latin players from the Sox organization piss someone off that much? Why wouldn't he threat the black/latin players on the Sox and the team their facing? Why not threaten every MLB black/latin player?

Well, to begin with, the Sox are arguably the highest profile team in baseball right now (yeah, yeah, Yankees...but who won the World Series?). And they certainly have two of the highest profile Latino players in Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz.

The last game of the series is on ESPN. That adds to the national prominence.

And all that is assuming that there's any actual logic involved...which is a lot to ask of a crazy person. This could just be a convergence of "I'm a racist prick" and "I'm a Tampa Bay fan who is mad at the Red Sox for the brawl" (or, "I'm a Yankees fan," or, "I'm just sick of Boston winning all the time" or whatever). It's not like this threat (to the best of my knowledge, anyway) came on official KKK letterhead with the promise of an organized assault against non-white players. It's just some random guy.

So who knows what's going through his head? (Hopefully a bullet. Seriously. Stop stealing my air you worthless piece of crap.)
