I the spirit of the last series these two teams faced off, here's some BOXING MOJO to help get us over the top:

BobHeise
Can we re-acquire Tavarez just for this series?

Let's get a full effort in this series--starting pitching and bullpen, and all bats on fire. Get hot now and carry on right through 4th of July weekend.
BigSlick
Let's get these bastards, both for the brawl and for Steve Irwin.

The above picture is claimed to be from his final video.

So far, no good.

It's just a ruse. We will win. My Monday depends on it.

So far, each team has scored one run on an AB that would have ended in a K had the umpire been wearing his glasses.

I guess either way, that leaves us down 2 right now.

If I ever said I hated the trop, I take it back.
ivebeentruped
That's a bit depressing. Karma won't like this.

Unlucky break that Percival got hurt. We would have won if he stayed in the game.

I hope it was a DL injury and not just a "that catwalk hurt my feelings" injury. I can't stand him.

Lugo vs. Lefties: .298/.400/.383/.783
Casey vs. Lefties: .350/.381/.550/.931

GOOD JOB PULLING BACK CASEY WHEN THEY PUT IN THE LEFTIE, TITO!

And if that Chris Smith guy could throw a freaking strike, they would've at least tied it.

I hate the Rays and their bandwagon fans so much. I know there's no chance of them lasting through August, but I wanted to sweep them so they'd shut up sooner than they inevitably will have to.

If Percival is hurt, their "great" bullpen will be exposed. I don't see why that crap team is 1.5 games ahead of us.

See...this is the one only good thing I could see in us losing. Maybe it would finally put to rest the "Tampa Bay isn't for real" talk.

I guess not.

Tampa Bay is for real.

Good enough to win the division? I don't think so, unless things really go awry for the Sox on the injury front. Good enough to finish second, and stay in the Wild Card hunt? I don't see why not, unless things really go awry from them on the injury front.

Trade deadline could have something to say about that too.

But, while their fans are a fraud, I don't think their team is. dunno.gif

I think they have a real chance of winning this division, I really do. Look at what they've been doing to all those great teams all year long. They were getting better each year and maybe you didn't notice, but I did, and the games between the Sox and Rays are for me 10 times more important than those against those old Yankees. Your comment shows a lot of disrespect for a team that grew with their own talent and with a limited payroll, while playing in one of the toughest divisions of MLB.

And I don't like how you talk about "bandwagon fans". That's prejudice, you don't know each fan personally. You can call me a bandwagon Sox fan too, will you disrespect me for that? I was a fan since a kid, but only got involved after 2003, when the Sox got more attention.

You see, I have only a day per week for watching baseball games, during half the year, and sometimes have that opportunity denied because ESPN wants to show the replay of the US Open of Golf, or the NBA playoffs, for instance, which I hate more than anything. Red Sox games, I have about 2 or 3 per year. Still, I sometimes have tests and exams the day after and have to sleep early, and I still go and watch the Sox play. The Sox are losing in a blowout, and I still watch until the end of the game. I have to follow the games through Gameday and other services. But all that, just because the Sox got attention in the 2003 playoffs, they were doing really good, and I got to see more of them. So I am a bandwagon fan, but I am absolutely sure I have more passion for this team than many of the so called "real fans" that hang around Boston.

NBA playoffs and the outcome this year almost make me not give a shite about how the Sox are doing in each and every game. I said almost; I'll be a Red Sox fan for life. To each his own, but the Celtics were the ONLY Boston team winning it all until Feb. 2002, with the exception of the Bruins winning a couple of Stanley Cups in the early 70s. Before that, the Bruins hadn't won since 1941, the Red Sox and the Patriots never. Thank You Celtics for the 16 titles in an otherwise losing town, now 17 titles and very possibly more.

The Sox better get Ortiz back at near full strength or their offense is in trouble. Well, I don't see them becoming a wimp hitting team, but they're too weak at the bottom of the lineup and Ellsbury's been in a bad slump. Manny hasn't been consistent at all this year. Maybe the injuries are the cause, but either way. Thank God for Drew. We'll see and it's easy to get discouraged after games like the last ten (4W, 6L).

Is it me or does Julio Lugo stink? Every time I watch the Sox, he is either booting grounders, throwing balls into the seats or NOT HITTING!! I really don't want to see him in a Red Sox uniform next year. Heck, we had a couple of good shortstops that we just let go. Even Renteria (spelling) was better than Lugo. We need to send Lugo to the National League. The only team he ever hit against was Boston.

It's just you.

This is why..

A) In Sox wins, he is hitting .311 and almost at an .800 OPS. Therefore he is the main reason the Sox win when they do -- without him, they are a shit 3rd place team.

B) Leading off the game, he is hitting .500. Leading off in hitting his wife's head on a car hood, he is hitting 1.000.

C) Tito needs to bat him seventh, where he has hit over .400 this year. If Tito pulls his head out of his ass, Lugo hits over .300 for the season and is probably the team MVP.

D) After a 3-1 count, Lugo hits for .964 OPS. How superawesome is that?!? If umpires would call more balls earlier in the count, Lugo's stats would look closer to where they should. How many hitters do you think actually get better the deeper in the count they get? My guess: NONE.

E) When there's a runner on 3rd base, he hits .667. It doesn't matter that it's in 3 AB... the guys in front of him aren't producing enough to put people at third for him.

F) If the Sox are winning by more than 4 runs, Julio will put the F'ing game away -- hits .389/.450/.472 in those situations. What could be more important than preserving a 6 run lead? Now that's clutch... forget this David Ortiz bullshit. Where is he? Being a pansy on the bench with some sort of turf toe.

G) He hits like Babe Ruth during the day. In other words, put him in the deadball area (yeah, so what if he already hits like he's there) with every game in daylight..... Hall of Fame on all you haters.

H) About his defense... Honus Wagner once had 60 errors in one season.. and you wanna bitch about what, 16 so far this year? Who cares if he had 19 all of last season -- that was 1/3 of a Wagner year. Such high expectations from you Sox fans. What are you looking for, a Tony Scott-esque performance EVERY year?

Now don't even get me started on how well Lugo hits in the 5th inning or his amazing batting average is on line drives. Do you have any idea how well he's hitting against the Indians? Well... DO YA?

Until you do some research (I got all of this off the top of my head), don't you ever diss Julio Cesar Lugo.

Westlake, that is some really good work with the stats. Especially coming off of the top of your head. I stand corrected on the mans performance "through your eyes". I don't follow the stat sheets like you. Nor do I intend to. I only know what I've seen. Again, I obviously don't watch every game either. Just the ones where I see him making errors and not hitting when its needed most. It's simple, when I see him play, he stinks. I do appreciate the way you are defending him though. And, I really would love to see him play better defense but I don't expect that anytime soon.

So, kudos to you. You definitely made some excellent points in Lugo's favor. Everyone else seems to agree with you too. Congrats. However, it doesn't change my feelings one bit. So.... with that being said, let me just say that I'll "diss" Lugo anytime I feel like it. I personally enjoyed seeing Gonzalez play defense for us a few years back. It was amazing to watch that guy. To me, that was a real shortstop. You can say whatever you want, if that makes you feel better. I could care less about it. I also don't plan on pouring over the stat sheets anytime soon either, so you know what to do with your stats. I think he stinks and that is that. I hope he ends up playing somewhere else next year. That doesn't seem likely to happen because there isn't anyone available who is any better right now. Never mind any contract situations going on. Thanks for trying to "put me in my place" though. Your buddies loved it.

You were sitting there rooting for him to K just so you could dig up a week old thread to give Westlake crap.

Some Sox fan you are.

The worst part is that you didn't even get his post.
soxpatsfan
Hey Slick, you are a pretty sharp guy aren't you? That is exactly what I did. I saw an opportunity to mess with Westlake for shits and grins and I took it. So what!! I bet he isn't bothered by me one bit. He reamed the hell out of me and I took it pretty well I would say.

That was my ONLY chance to screw with him. I can't possibly argue baseball with Westlake. It doesn't take a scientist to realize that he knows his baseball all too well. Certainly WAY more than I do. He's pulling stuff out of his head that the average schmoe just doesn't have a clue about. (That schmoe would be me.)

I'm just having fun with the guy. Nothing more. I was actually genuinely impressed by what he had to say. I bet I could really enjoy listening to him talk baseball. I'm sure that even he knows that! What about you???? Whats your story? Do you have a story?

So you really think I sat there and wanted to see the Sox lose to the YANKEE'S. Are you insane!! You're out of your mind Slick. Oh yeah, excuse me, "BIG Slick". Now that's funny. The sad thing is that you didn't even get my post. I bet Westlake did. Some judge of people you are.
