Is it me or does Julio Lugo stink? Every time I watch the Sox, he is either booting grounders, throwing balls into the seats or NOT HITTING!! I really don't want to see him in a Red Sox uniform next year. Heck, we had a couple of good shortstops that we just let go. Even Renteria (spelling) was better than Lugo. We need to send Lugo to the National League. The only team he ever hit against was Boston.
It's just you.
This is why..
A) In Sox wins, he is hitting .311 and almost at an .800 OPS. Therefore he is the main reason the Sox win when they do -- without him, they are a shit 3rd place team.
B) Leading off the game, he is hitting .500. Leading off in hitting his wife's head on a car hood, he is hitting 1.000.
C) Tito needs to bat him seventh, where he has hit over .400 this year. If Tito pulls his head out of his ass, Lugo hits over .300 for the season and is probably the team MVP.
D) After a 3-1 count, Lugo hits for .964 OPS. How superawesome is that?!? If umpires would call more balls earlier in the count, Lugo's stats would look closer to where they should. How many hitters do you think actually get better the deeper in the count they get? My guess: NONE.
E) When there's a runner on 3rd base, he hits .667. It doesn't matter that it's in 3 AB... the guys in front of him aren't producing enough to put people at third for him.
F) If the Sox are winning by more than 4 runs, Julio will put the F'ing game away -- hits .389/.450/.472 in those situations. What could be more important than preserving a 6 run lead? Now that's clutch... forget this David Ortiz bullshit. Where is he? Being a pansy on the bench with some sort of turf toe.
G) He hits like Babe Ruth during the day. In other words, put him in the deadball area (yeah, so what if he already hits like he's there) with every game in daylight..... Hall of Fame on all you haters.
H) About his defense... Honus Wagner once had 60 errors in one season.. and you wanna bitch about what, 16 so far this year? Who cares if he had 19 all of last season -- that was 1/3 of a Wagner year. Such high expectations from you Sox fans. What are you looking for, a Tony Scott-esque performance EVERY year?
Now don't even get me started on how well Lugo hits in the 5th inning or his amazing batting average is on line drives. Do you have any idea how well he's hitting against the Indians? Well... DO YA?
Until you do some research (I got all of this off the top of my head), don't you ever diss Julio Cesar Lugo.
