Linsay Kramer - PawSox 5, Chiefs 2 - Buchholz goes five strong to pick up win

The PawSox scored four in the third, also getting RBI singles from first baseman Jeff Bailey, DH Chris Carter and third baseman Keith Ginter. Starting pitcher Clay Buchholz (4-1) hurled five scoreless innings, giving up four hits, walking one and fanning three. Hunter Jones, the last of five PawSox’ hurlers, pitched a scoreless ninth to get his fourth save of the season.

...

Buchholz grinded his way through a wet, dank night to cool off the Chiefs’ bats. Of his 60 pitches, 37 were strikes. In his last four starts, he is 4-0 with a 0.40 ERA in 22 2/3 innings pitched with five walks and 22 strikeouts.

David McDonough - Familiar opponent, familiar outcome; The Sea Dogs-Thunder rivalry moves to Trenton after a series at Hadlock, and the Thunder win again.

TRENTON, N.J. — The Trenton Thunder defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 6-1 Monday night in the opener of a four-game series at Waterfront Park.

...

Neither team had faced the opposing starter before Monday night's game. Trenton's Eric Hacker was promoted from Class A in late May, and Portland's Dave Gassner, who played in the Minnesota farm system, was signed in early June and made his fifth start for the Sea Dogs.

Gassner has yet to win a game, but with Matt Goodson going on the disabled list Monday and Andrew Dobies, Tommy Hottovy and Dustin Richardson already there, somebody had to provide the Sea Dogs some innings.

The Thunder got to Gassner early when Austin Jackson hit a solo homer in the first inning.

Portland responded in the second on a hit batsman, a double by Aaron Bates and an RBI groundout by John Otness to tie the game.

Trenton took over after that, breaking the tie with a run in the third, then adding two in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Willie T. Smith III - Asheville Tourists pound Greenville Drive

Asheville scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back, claiming a 9-3 victory over the Greenville Drive in front of 4,811.

...

Greenville out-hit the Tourists 11 to nine. Five of Asheville’s hits went for extra bases, however. The Drive also walked six and committed a pair of errors.

...

Right-fielder Ryan Kalish was the offensive leader for Greenville, garnering three hits in four at-bats, including a double. Left-fielder Jered Stanley hit the team’s only home run, a solo shot over the Green Monster in left in the eighth inning.

In his last two starts against the Tourists, Matsuo (3-2) has allowed 13 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.

JetHawks Knock 21 Hits, Beat High Desert 12-9

Both teams committed five errors, but Lancaster tallied a season-high 21 hits and got good relief pitching from Cody McAllister and Richie Lentz as the JetHawks beat the Mavericks 12-9. Lancaster finished its strongest month of the season with back-to-back wins. They went 15-10 in June. Especially impressive, they won eight of their ten games on the road.

The game was sloppy by both teams early. High Desert committed a throwing error in the first inning. The next three JetHawks all hit singles, leading to three runs. A Jason Place homer in the second helped Lancaster open a 5-0 lead.

Lancaster gave it back over the next two frames. They made two errors on the same play in the second inning- a play in which a High Desert base running error should have ended the inning- and helped the Mavericks go up 6-5.

The JetHawks did not need any help in taking the lead back for good. They hit six more singles in the fourth inning to score three times and led the rest of the way. While the Mavericks would keep the game close, Lars Anderson's three-run homer in the seventh inning helped give the JetHawks enough room for the bullpen to hold on.

Spinners explode then get no-hit

Lowell (7-6) started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, batting around as part of a seven-run barrage that knocked Aaron Fuhrman from the game. It included a Mitch Dening two-run homer and concluded with a Ricardo Burgos RBI double.

...

However, the Spinners cooled off quickly as they got no-hit in a 2-1 loss in the nightcap, the first time in 95 years that a Lowell minor league team suffered a no-hitter. Lowell (7-7) scored its only run in the third without a hit.
