Game time: 1:05 pm
Scheduled starters: Josh Beckett (7-5, 3.65) v. Darrell Rasner (4-6, 4.42)
The game will be on NESN
NYC weather: 10 am observation at KLGA: wind out of the northeast at 7 mph, visibility 8 miles, few clouds at 3,000 feet, scattered clouds at 10,000 feet, overcast at 15,000 feet, temperature 75F, DP 64F
Forecast: Unsettled. The weak cold front is just south of NYC, with a low to the southwest. The waves of low pressure are causing light showers in the area, but the lack of heating is going to hold off convection for most of the day. There's a chance of rain all afternoon, and it's going to be cool and damp. The wind is blowing in from left, but probably won't be a factor in this game.

Didn't ESPN used to show 3 or 4 games every 4th of July?

With Giambi playing first, I want to see Ellsbury push a few bunts his way. Lugo too. They could beat out most of them, and possibly take extra bases if they force him to throw it wild.

I so agree it felt like he wasn't even paying attention
I have a theory regarding baseball, that when you leave the bases loaded in one or more of the first three innings without scoring, you will lose 95% of the time.

Not nearly as ugly as Varitek's American Gladiator Suit
This is all Beckett's fault for walking Abreu on four straight pitches with A-Rod on deck

Agreed, but at least it's going to charity.
Bad pitch by Beckett on 0-2, but an even worse throw by Lugo to the plate.

Look at all those Yankee clowns getting fired up over a regular season game. Very classy. Michael Kay, who I have to hear today unfortunately, talked about a "huge clutch hit" by ARod... oh lord, what a tool...

Youk flied to deep left. Damon crashed into the wall, and actually had the ball at the tip of the glove, but he never had control of it. The ball came out of the glove, landed on top of the wall, spun, stopped, and then rolled into the field of play while Damon lay on the ground looking in his glove trying to figure out where the ball was. Melky Cabrera retrieved the ball, but two runs scored and Youk was on third base.
Damon hurt his shoulder and ribs, and had to leave the game.

Fly to deep left, Damon going full speed leaped at the warning track and initially made the catch, then hit the wall and the ball jarred loose, and ended up sitting on the top of the wall for a good two seconds before rolling back into play. I've never seen anything like it.
And Johnny had to come out of the game for some guy I've never heard of named Brett Gardner.

Thanks for the updates. Happy fourth of July!
I love Jacoby. They keep playing the infield back, so he's going to keep bunting.
Jacoby almost beat that rundown out...I think the biggest mistake he made was drawing Giambi into chasing him, he should've just bolted it to 2nd and made him throw with the pressure on. He probably would've thrown it to LF.

E-5!
And now a rain delay!
This rain should not last very long. There's some "more serious" rain about an hour west.
Last I heard, the rain wasn't going to stop anytime soon, so they might as well just call this game.
But knowing the Yankees organization, Hank Steinbrenner would go batshit if they even thought about ending it.

It's just a narrow band of showers. It should stop within 15-20 minutes. As I said above, there is more rain about an hour west, but there will be a window to finish the game.
