Daisuke Matsuzaka (9-1, 3.12) looks great, but why don't I feel the same rush of confidence as I did last year when Josh Beckett was pitching with a similar line?

Because you're buying into the negativity.
Commander Kick ass will be super in the second half, starting with his last start of the first half.

Let's see how many pitches he's thrown by the end of the third inning before we annoint him with that title.

Because last year whe Beckett got someone out on 3 pitches it was usually a strikeout. This year when Matsuzaka gets someone out on 3 pitches they were usually swinging at a 2-0 pitch.

During the commercial break that just ended I flipped on YES. They are showing the 1977 All-Star game that was played at the Toilet. I saw one batter. Yastrzemski struck out on 3 pitches. That can't be a good omen for tonight.

Holy shnikeys, that bottom half of the Sox lineup is appalling. If I'm an opposing pitcher I'll pitch around Drew/Manny/Lowell/Youks every time around the order...there's no way Coco/Tek/Lugo are going to produce. Sigh.
OTOH, good DiceK has returned, at least for one night. With the anemia on offense and the even-year Beckett the Sox *need* DiceK to be a RHP complement to Lester.

I am going to be optimistic and take the under. Okajima will ride the momentum from his solid outing against the Yankees and only allow one run, which of course will be the winning run for the Twins.
