Game time: 1:05 pm
Scheduled starters: Livan Hernandez (9-5, 5.18) v. Josh Beckett (8-5, 3.70)
The game will be on NESN
Boston weather: 11 am observation at KBOS: Wind out of the south at 16 mph, visibility 8 miles, few clouds at 25,000 feet, temperature 85F, DP 70F
Forecast: HOT! It'll will likely get into the low 90s this afternoon, with the dew point over 70F. There's a cold front located at the western NY/PA border, and there are showers and thunderstorms forming ahead of it. At 11 am, the leading edge of the rain was between Buffalo and Rochester. The leading edge of the cloud shield is near the MA/NY border, so it looks like a couple more hours of sunshine in eastern MA. There's a slight chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon, but most likely the showers won't get to the coast until the game is over.

Stuck at work and home wouldn't have the game on anyway. I wonder if Beckett is worried about blisters. He's throwing almost all fastballs?

Is Beckett really pitching or have the somehow trotted Timlin out to start? WTF is going on? Stupid gamecast tells me it's Beckett, but i see the results and I'm not convinced. Anyone have visual confirmation?!

Only a guess but if Beckett is only throwing fastballs his back is probably not right yet. Could be blisters or both.

Same start as against the Yankees (3 runs in the first). Sox won that one. He's definitely not the same this year though. SOSH thread is sayng he's been mostly all fastballs. Of course, most of them bitch all game anyway.

Yeah, of course that is the reason he isn't throwing many. The ones in the first were bad and the one he threw to Mauer right now was pretty bad as well. I'd still rather him keep trying to throw them instead of abandoning it completely.
A changeup! Woo.
EDIT: Most of the outs have been hit harder than the hits.

Keerist, just noticed that Livo has a .336 BA against and a .507 ERA. That's horrible, and then he strikes out Youks with first and third one out. C'mon Manny.
Manny comes through, but we need more than one run on three hits in an inning here! C'mon Mikey.

Ellsbury runs all the way to left field to get a fly ball Manny should have easily gotten to (and might have anyway), slides to make the catch and slides right between Manny's legs.

Very nice to see Casey's good day at the plate. And Remy seems convinced that Manny is back. Personally, I think the problem with the whole team has something to do with those gray uniforms. Burn 'em. Get new ones and bleach the h*ll out of them. Gotta do something.

Manny with the gun again to save the bacon (for the moment). Lopez not exactly impressing the world - so what else is new.
For Mr. NE, Beckett came out for the 6th, gave up a leadoff HR followed by a LOOOONG double to right center. Beckett gets pulled. Instead of 5 innings, 3 ER, he gets 5+ innings and 5 ER. Idiotic.
Then Lopez strikes out the first batter, gives up a hit to bring in the inherited runner, then gives up another hit, but Manny throws the runner out at third. Follow that with a four pitch walk. In short, Sox lucky to still have the lead.
