Game time: 3:55 pm EDT (12:55 pm PDT)

Scheduled starters: Josh Beckett (9-5, 3.94) v. Joe Saunders (12-5, 3.07)

The game will be on FOX

Anaheim weather: 10:35 am PDT (1:35 EDT) special observation at KSNA: Wind variable at 3 mph, visibility 6 miles in fog and mist, 600 feet scattered, overcast at 1,000 feet, temperature 66F, DP 61F

Forecast: The fog is starting to burn off, and when it does, it should be sunny, or as sunny as it can get through the SOCAL brown haze. It should be dry, and around 80F, with the dew point in the mid-60s, so it'll be muggy, but not as bad as it is back here in Boston. The wind will be blowing from the southwest, which is out toward center.

Despite giving up a leadoff single to Figgins and allowing him to steal second, and then move on to 3rd on a fly out, Beckett holds off the Angels to keep it scoreless after 1.
SoxAroundTheWorld
... then delivers a seven pitch inning after Youk hits another big fly. Looking good so far, but let's get more!

Fake edit: Angels diss Mike Lowell by walking Manny, and get away with it (short term). Meanwhile, Beckett throwing some nasty stuff to go 1-2-3 again. 2-0 good guys after three.

So, um, when will Jacoby remember how to hit again?
SFFM38
Tek seems to be so lost at plate as of late. weep.gif
Lesbian BoyFriend
DP ends it. 2 hits through 4 against Beckett.

Got that right. I find myself surprised whenever he hits a fair ball. Bring him back as a coach next year, not as a player.

Thanks, Vlad, for the easy DP.
Lesbian BoyFriend
The Fox announcers are freaking idiots...nothing new there.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Now would be a good time for Manny to forgive the team for fining him.

Fake edit: Well, he hit it hard. Angels got lucky.

Ahem, they have the luck maker on their side.

Which won't help them much if Josh keeps throwing that curve!

Nicely located fastball also nullifies the luck.

Then, something I've never seen before. The bat head goes in the same direction as, and just ahead of, the ball. Lowell and Lowrie both have to stay away from the ball to avoid the bat - base hit. Ban maple!!!
Lesbian BoyFriend
Beckett's dealing, good to see.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Huge K of Kotchman.

Fake edit: Bye, Mr. Saunders. No win for you today.

Nice to see JE get a hit for a change. Two out rally, please.
SFFM38
This umpire sucks ( Home Plate )
SoxAroundTheWorld
At least he sucks for both sides.

J.D. does nothing to improve that RISP 2 outs batting avg. Let's stop the squandering, 'Kay?

Just got home. Drew fans on a bad call. Homer, single, single against Beckett. Shoulda stayed out.

Yes, Malzone, please step outside. Thx.

Fake edit: For everyone except Malzone (from whom I expect the answer "no"): DID YOU SEE THAT CATCH COCO JUST MADE?!?!?!?

Wheels sure fell off in a hurry for Beckett.

Sure I saw Coco's catch. Beckett only had thrown 77 pitches through six, so he shouldn't have been gassed. Road Sux again.
Renton
Holy shit. I'm usually not surprised anymore when Coco makes a great catch but that was un****ingbelieveable. I don't even know how to describe it, it was so awesome.

Why is Casey not pinch hitting?

FAKE EDIT: Lowrie whiffs on three pitches. Who didn't see that one coming? Sure, let Casey rot on the bench Terry.
SFFM38
7-8-9 spots continue to stink up the joint.

According to the Fox announcers, cuz Lowrie needs these kind of at bats as a growing experience. Lovely. A whole lot of squandering going on. enraged.gif banghead.gif
czar
I still need an explanation as to how you just leave a lefty with a 133 OPS+ (in sparse playing time admittedly, but hey, he's just pinch hitting!) on deck with a rookie SS who had a .268 BA at Pawtucket this year at the plate.

Un-f*cking-believable. Casey better be hurt. We had to suffer through Lugo batting in clutch situations with Casey still available and it looks like that trend is going to f*cking continue.

I ****ing hate Terry Francona

Leaves Beckett out to dry in the 7th, and sends him back for the ****ing 8th

Then leaves Casey and Moss ont he bench when Coco, who was 0 for his last 17 and had just hit a wall, and Lowrie both make crucial outs....and the Lowrie one could be very harmful for his confidence. The ump can go kill himself too, the call to Drew probably cost us at least 2 runs.

Now we get to watch K-Rod retire the side and do his stupid ass rain dance
Lesbian BoyFriend
I hate Terry Francoma, that is all
Renton
How is it Francona's fault that Beckett got hit in the 7th? He had like 77 pitches at that point... was he supposed to have the foresight that everyone else in here apparently has to end Beckett's day?
SoxAroundTheWorld
Well I didn't stay up late to see that sh*t. How many ways are there to squander opportunities? Josh deserved better than a loss, although his real fatal flaw was the failure to put Aybar (Aybar? Really?) away.

The water is much too clean...
SFFM38
I ****ing hate the Angels almost just as bad as MFY.

Justin Masterson's nameplate was missing from his PawSox locker after Saturday night's 13-5 loss to Toledo. That usually means the player is heading somewhere.

Also, David Ortiz is not playing Sunday for Pawtucket. He could still be playing in Portland on Monday, as scheduled, or maybe he's heading to Seattle. His homer tonight (third in three games) went 420 feet. Cleared the RCF fence. That was the first of his three homers here that would have been out of any park.
john dopson
I too would've gone with Casey or Moss in the 8th.
Lowrie looked lost.
