Game time: 3;55 pm

Scheduled starters: Andy Pettitte (11-7, 3.86) v. Tim Wakefield (6-7, 3.69)

The game will be on FOX

Boston weather: 3 pm observation at KBOS: wind out of the south southeast at 5 mph, visibility 10 miles, scattered clouds at 7,500 feet, temperature 81F, DP 63F

Forecast: Sunny and warm. The wind is southeast at KBOS, but it's southwest just a few miles inland, under the influence of a weak high just off the coast. I would expect a more south/southwest wind at Fenway, which is blowing out toward left.
Yazfest
Have the Yankee lineup yet Anni? I heard that Nady is starting for them.
RedSoxAnni
Here it is. It wasn't posted on the wire until 3:36 pm!

and here we go again, lets beat this scum
manny machine24
Did anybody catch Bobby Meacham's brutal reading of the Yankees lineup? Robinson Cano "The Best 2nd basemen in the MLB."

Scum? Are you talking about the juice monkey LHP they have on the mound today? Or the juice monkey 1B?

I'm in a rotten mood after last night. mad.gif

Manny running out the DP ball was an encouraging sight. Him not beating out the Jeter showoff jumping throw to 2nd wasn't.

And I love hving Papi back. Thanks for the run E-Rod.

Lot of intangibles in that jumping throw.

Come on, how was he supposed to beat out a ground ball to SS. I know Jeter went to his left but theres no way he could have beat that out.

According to McCarver, Theo told them that if Manny would waive his no trade clause that they would be interested in trading him. Seems like this would have been reported elsewhere other than McCarver. Interesting though.

EDIT: Oh and apparently its similar to extortion according to McCarver as well. awesome.
retire25

Tim McCarver makes me want to reconsider my support for gun control. One right between his eyes would be a service to society.

they're all scum, the lowest form of scum

and i'm with you retire, i'm filthy angry about last night

well its going better so far tonight
Red Sox Fan2
Just turned on the TV and I hear, "trying to hit the knuckle ball is like catching a shooting star."

Mute time.
SuperManny
Nady and Marte are okay players but everyone is making way too much of that trade. Nady is having a fluke year and everyone thinks he's going to keep hitting .330. Give me a break.

Well, perhaps he has just never heard of Chase Utley, Dan Uggla, Brian Roberts, Dustin Pedroia, Placido Polanco, Howie Kendrick, Ian Kinsler, Kelly Johnson, Mark DeRosa, and Orlando Hudson.*

*this year, at least
TreeRol
Man, that knuckler is awesome today.
retire25
Remember Julio Lugo? The RS former starting SS?
jbelushi
so if mannys pissed because he wants the FO to put some certaintity in his future

if epstein said as just reported by boofhead that if manny would lift his no trade clause then they would talk to other clubs about a trade

but apparently with manny's contract he is untradeable

its an obvious catch 22, anybody got any ideas?

dont forget I know shit about trades and the suns just rising where i am

maybe thats better discussed at or in another forum, sorry folks.

Coco sucks so bad as a hitter that I almost wouldn't mind him trying to bunt in that situation even after he has two strikes.
Red Sox Fan2
Kevin Cash putting on a good AB.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Evening all. Happy to see the score. Cash had a nice at bat, although the end result sucks. Maybe the best we can hope for is that he makes Pettite throw 9 pitches each plate appearance.
jbelushi
at least this ump is squaring up the calls from last night
retire25
Damn, a walk to the No. 9 hitter is a killer.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Love the Fox announcers. McCarver calls CHB a "great columnist." And Buck says that Damon's recent injury means that "he can't throw." Goodness...
retire25
Damn, Wake getting rocked.

good play by manny

Abreu should have been called out on strikes. Get an optical robot out there. Human umps stink like a week old garbage strike.

Yeah, but I'm used to it - never having been wrong. smokin.gif

Hate to say it but McCarver is right on that. Manny could have dropped the bat and at least taken a few steps toward 1B. I think his knee could have handled that.

No one is going to cry about Manny not running on that AB?

Yeah, I just did. See the post above.
jbelushi
jeez see wakefield 16 years ago, totally unrecognizable

unlike moi, still as ugly as ever
SoxAroundTheWorld
Not happy about stranding Youk. Also not happy about Manny walking back to the dugout.

And DEFINITELY not happy about Cano's shot. *#&$*@(@!!!
jbelushi
jeez that gives me the f%$#@! complete and utter shits!!!!
Red Sox Fan2
Blow up this team, I'm f* sick of this F* shit.
retire25
Coco didn't charge that ball at all. Not that he could reach HP from 2B anyways.
MiniBruceHurst
Nice lazy approach Coco.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Jacoby wouldn't have thrown him out, either. We need RUNS!
jbelushi
positive thinking.........we'll get that one back and more, have to.
Malzone64
I don't know how Melky was not called out. The throw was in time, tag placed. That's two gift runs for the MFYs.

Edit, bring on football. Less dependent on officiating. Yeah, I know, pass interference calls, holding calls, but the referees at least have to be in shape. Baseball umps are the biggest joke in pro sports. Basketball second.

If the Sox lose today, what's the record for close games. Gotta be sub .500.
retire25
Do you guys think Rivera is available today after getting five outs last night?

Coco, you are one terrible BB player.
jbelushi
well at least the catchers getting a hit tonight
TreeRol
I freaking love that man.
retire25
Tito certainly not denying there was an issue with Manny in the Fox interview. Clearly, the team thought he could have played last night.
SoxAroundTheWorld
Anyone else hear Buck say that the 2004 Sox came back from a four game deficit in the ALCS?!? Or is the beer interfering with my hearing?
jbelushi
please no more two out rbi's

its the beer mate, he said 3 - 0 deficit
chicowalker
McCarver apparently is not only a cowbell, but a lazy cowbell.

Anybody hear him earlier in the game, speculating re. Manny's knee and the MRI? (paraphrasing) "I'm not an expert, but I would think the MRI would show it if there were a problem."

You're on a network broadcast -- is your job that strenuous, and you have so little support, that you can't look into that fairly obvious question? You're also a former big league player. Is there not a single orthopod or trainer you can call to ask? Please bring something to the table instead of just throwing out the same uninformed observations that any of us could make.

Guess I need another one, then. Cheers! warren.gif

Edit: So THAT'S how a catcher throws out a base stealer. Well I'll be!
