John Wagner - PawSox 8, Mud Hens 5 -- Moss hits two of PawSox' four homers

Brandon Moss had a solo homer in the first and a two-run homer in the third — on a ball that traveled more than 400 feet to straightaway center — that jump-started a five-run third-inning outburst by the PawSox. George Kottaras added his 19th homer of the season in the second and Chris Carter went back-to-back with Moss by hitting his 23rd home run in the third. Pawtucket finished with 15 hits, and each starter except Sean Danielson had at least one. That was more than enough offense for PawSox starter Edgar Martinez, who gave up just two hits and two runs in six solid innings to go 4-1 as a starter this season.

David McDonough - Dogs wait out rain, then hold off Trenton; Portland again builds a lead before beating the division-leading Thunder for the third straight time.

Despite losing their starting pitcher after only three innings because of a rain delay, the Sea Dogs swept their first series since late April and moved to within 5 1/2 games of first-place Trenton in the Eastern League Northern Division.

For the second game in a row, the Sea Dogs did their scoring in the early innings, getting all their runs against right-hander Jason Jones, who beat the Sea Dogs the two previous times he faced them this season.

Left fielder Bryan Pritz led off the third by poking an 0-1 pitch for a home run to give Portland a 1-0 lead.

The Sea Dogs broke it open in the fourth. With one out, Lars Anderson singled and went to third on Iggy Suarez's double. A walk to Pritz loaded the bases, and Tony Granadillo walked to force in Anderson.

Then Zach Daeges drove the ball over the right-field fence for a grand slam and a 6-0 lead.

Portland starter Kris Johnson pitched three perfect innings, but the game was stopped by a furious thunderstorm before he could take the mound in the middle of the fourth.

Mike James, who got the win, replaced Johnson after a delay of 2 hours, 23 minutes. He got two outs before hitting a batter and walking another, then allowed a run-scoring single that pulled Trenton within 6-1.
