Game time: 7:05 pm
Scheduled starters: Justin Duchscherer (10-7, 2.37) v. Tim Wakefield (6-8, 3.94)
The game will be on NESN
Boston weather: 4 pm observation at KBOS: Wind out of the east southeast at 12 mph, visibility 7 miles, scattered clouds at 5,000 feet and 22,000 feet, temperature 74F, DP 65F

I was driving by the waterfront yesterday and I had a vision, for a moment this sign read 'Bay beside Ellsbury center'....and I knew a new dawn was upon us....and it was good.
Here's to the first in a Morgan Magic redux, circa 88' (though we'll have to come up with another catchy phrase).
It's Friday, let's have us some Beer Can Mojo!

There are two ways to view the game tonight.
A) With sadness, missing someone who has been a part of our lives for a long and often glorious time.
B) Treat it like it's opening day. A new beginning is upon us. A time for excitement to see what this new Sox team will bring us.
I choose B and I hope many of you do the same.

I dont get to post often, due to me being underway with the navy during every baseball season so here is my 2 cents on this New Mannyless Era. I feel that this could be a repeat of 2004. Theo pulled the trigger on our beloved Nomar and from that date we played better baseball that vaulted us to our first win in 84 years. I dont think we got fair value on Manny but we did get rid of a cancer in the clubhouse, we got a good player that will put up good numbers, mabye not Many like numbers, but we may see an improvement with that due to Bay being on a competitive team. We improved on defense and baserunning too. Not only that we have more money coming off our books to gear for 2009. Lets hope today starts a repeat of 2004 and start stringing togethor some wins and vault ourselves back into first where we belong. The playoffs starts now.

Hope Duchscherer pitches more like he did his last time out (8 ER in 6 innings) than he did when I saw him against Boston back in the spring (no hitter Papi broke up in the 7th). Win needed!

Any word on who's being called up to take Hansen's spot on the roster? redsox.com has 24 men up there, including Bay, with 11 pitchers. Are they pulling a reliever from Pawtucket like Chris Smith?

Yeah, I heard on TV that they called up Smith. I'm sure they're going to be very actively looking for bullpen help on the waiver market too.

For those who remember, on August 1, 2004, Orlando Cabrera hit a home run, but the Sox lost. How will Bay do today?

Thanks. (btw, great username...I always thought of Big Mo whenever someone mentioned that website too).
There's always a decent depth reliever or two who sneaks through the waiver wire. My only concern is that as long as we're ahead of the Yanks, they'll try to block us, especially after dumping Hawkins and Farnsy.

That knuckler that struck out Suzuki was the most amazing pitch I've ever seen.
That had to break a good 18 inches right to left on a flat plane over about 10 feet.

Too huge IMO. He hadn't done anything yet, but I think it distracted Duchscherer since he went down 3-0 fast.

Jason Bay is such a team player. Manny would've done something selfish and tried to dodge that. [/NESN]

#1 of the 1,239,332 times that's going to be written in the next two months. Please stop the madness before it begins. If this continues, I will combat it by following every Bay swing-and-miss (on the field and with your mother) with 'Manny would have hit that.'
I thought the slide was unnecessary, but I do agree that Manny most likely wouldn't have reached that.

I disagree. He's a tall guy. Very tough to backhand that ball inches off the ground without getting down there.
No Sox clutch hitting tonight except for the sac fly by Lowrie. Wakefield can't buy any support.
That one by Suzuki Bay probably could have caught if he kept going back. Nice hold to a single.

According to the A's feed. Duchscherer was traded by the Red Sox to the A's in 2001 for Doug Mirabelli.

Yes, we drafted him in '96. After he had some pretty good seasons, peaking in 2001, we traded him to Texas (not Oakland) for Mirabelli who was hitting .102 at the time.
