Kansas City weather: 4 pm CDT/5 pm EDT observation at KMKC: Wind out of the southwest at 12 mph, visibility 10 miles, sky clear, temperature 98F, DP 71F

Forecast: HOT! KMKC is the downtown airport; at KC International (KKCI), located about 20 miles northwest, the temperature at 5 pm was 96F, but the dew point was a wiltering 75F. It will still be in the 90s at game time, and it won't cool off much until Wednesday.

Interesting Lineup Tonight:

J.D. Drew, RF
Dustin Pedroia, 2B
David Ortiz, DH
Kevin Youkilis, 3B
Jason Bay, LF
Sean Casey, 1B
Jed Lowrie, SS
Jason Varitek, C
Coco Crisp, CF

I like Drew in that leadoff spot (although he hasn't hit that well there in the past), and Youk has proven to be a strong cleanup hitter.

TreeRol
Drew walked, Pedroia doubled, and Youk doubled. Garza got out of the inning by striking out Bay and Casey.

by garza he means gil mecheps - we really cant afford to lose to the ****ing royalsalso, if buchholz is gonna shit the bed every start, they should go back to using masterson

totally agree there, is anyone up yet?
CTLovesTheSox
Colon has a rehab start tomorrow, hopefully he pitches well and maybe he takes the turn in the rotation Sunday instead of Buchholz.
Chino
Clay is not a 1 pitch pitcher. His mechanics got ****** up to apparently "get more movement on the FB", and now he suddenly can't throw much harder than 92 mph. He had an amazing changeup in the minors, and an above average slider too.

When all is right, this kid is a 4 plus pitch stud. It's almost surreal that he's sucking so much
jbelushi
and our bats seem to be falling asleep on the road again
Baystater
Isn't it time Masterson and Buchholz pulled a bullpen switch?
That was a mistake putting Masterson in the BP. Your best pitchers are your starters.

to be fair, Varitek has been on base 3 times tonight, albeit 2 are walks. But still, him and Pedroia each reach 3 times.

Wow, that was a break for Pedie and the Red Sox
Cambridge
Tying runs in scoring position. Terrible play by first baseman.

And, on top of it, they put the lead run on base to bring up the hottest hitter on the team. Wow.

I am so sick of the automatic strike call on a 3-0 count.

Varitek not walking in the 8th was the ballgame.

Stupid umpires.

Way to start the road trip. Oh well, a new winning streak starts tomorrow. Need to score more runs away from Fenway. Papi needs to stop mourning the departure of Manny.
jbelushi
well if its any consolation texas just beat the mfy with a walk off grand slam

add to that it was of marte

and bug boy left the game in the 5th with a stiff right shoulder
