Lindsay Kramer - PawSox 5 Chiefs 4

Rachel Lenzi - Sea Dogs stumble, then rally for a win; Portland surrenders a six-run lead to Harrisburg before winning with an Iggy Suarez infield single.

Friday night at Hadlock Field, the Sea Dogs surrendered a six-run lead before an infield hit by Suarez in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in Mark Wagner to give Portland an 8-7 win over Harrisburg.

...

Portland took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, then appeared to break open the game in the bottom of the fifth on a three-run homer by Josh Reddick, who finished the game 3 for 4 with a home run, a double and three RBI. Portland added a run in the sixth on Mickey Hall's solo home run.

Portland starter Ryne Lawson gave up two hits and struck out two in six innings, but was relieved by Richie Lentz in the seventh.

Harrisburg (68-59) scored five runs on three hits in the eighth. Then, in the top of the ninth, the Senators scored the tying and go-ahead runs when Mike Daniels' hit off Daniel Bard bounced off the glove of first baseman Lars Anderson (4 for 4, double), driving in Javi Herrera and Garrett Guzman.

Harrisburg appeared in control, but Bates' home run to open the bottom of the ninth tied the game. After a single by Anderson, pinch-runner Bryan Pritz moved to third on a single by Wagner. Josh Reddick was walked intentionally to load the bases, and Pritz was thrown out at home when he tried to score on a fly to center by Argenis Diaz.

Wagner and Reddick both advanced on the play, however, putting runners on second and third as Suarez came to the plate. With a 2-2 count, Suarez fouled off three pitches, then took ball three before getting his winning hit.

"Iggy just battled and battled and battled," Beyeler said.

John Brasier - Boles tossed as Drive fall again

Drive right-hander Brock Huntzinger, ripped for seven earned runs in 3 innings in his only previous Greenville start, allowed only one run on three hits in five innings. Ryne Miller (1-3) took the loss.

...

Oscar Tejeda drove in Carlos Fernandez with a grounder to shortstop for the Drive's lone run in the fourth inning.

The Lowell Sun

Matt Spencer - Spinners dodge the rain

Third baseman Darren Blocker's clutch RBI single in the 7th inning broke open a pitcher's duel and gave Lowell a 2-1 win over the Aberdeen Ironbirds before another small but intrepid crowd at a rain-soaked LeLacheur Park. The win pushes the Spinners' first-place lead in the Stedler Division to 5 1/2 games after Oneonta's 7-2 loss to Hudson Valley.

The first five shutout innings featured a showdown between the Ironbirds ace Cole McCurry, who entered the game at 7-1, and Lowell's big right-hander Hunter Strickland, who has feasted on LeLacheur home cooking, going 4-1 at the park. Neither starter would be part of the decision, but both lineups were all wet during their five innings on the mound.

Tom King - Litchfield native released by Sox, swallowed up by Tornadoes

Earlier this week Litchfield's Kyle Jackson was a member of the Boston Red Sox organization.

This weekend, however, he's reportedly expected to make his first start for the independent Worcester Tornadoes of the Can-Am League at Brockton, Mass.

Jackson, the former Alvirne High School standout who was drafted by the Red Sox in 2001 and was on their 40-man roster for two years, was released mid-week after posting a 5-3 mark with a 6.47 earned run average with the Class AA Portland Sea Dogs of the Eastern League.

The goal for Jackson, according to his agent, local attorney Mike Atkins, was to keep pitching this season with the hopes of attracting affiliate interest for next year. The best spot to do that was in the independent leagues.

"It's the opportunity to pitch a couple of times (before the end of the season)," Atkins said on Friday. "We're pushing for a major league opportunity, an affiliated opportunity. He obviously needs to pitch."

Jackson's career has sputtered the last couple of years after a solid 2006 season, where he had a 1.59 ERA in Class A and then was promoted to Portland, and was placed on the 40-man roster. However, he was removed from the 40-man at the end of spring training this year.
