Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Roy Halladay (13-9, 2.72) v. Paul Byrd (7-10, 4.53)

The game will be on NESN.

Boston weather: 4 pm observation at KBOS: Wind out of the southwest at 13 mph, visibility 10 miles, few clouds at 4,900 feet, scattered clouds at 7,000 feet, broken layer at 16,000 feet, temperature 79F, DP 59F

Forecast: A weak cold front is moving through the area this afternoon, and there is dryer, more stable air behind it. There's a chance for thunderstorms into the evening, but at 4 pm the activity seems to be staying in southern NH and extreme northeast MA. As the air dries out more this evening, the threat will go down. They should be able to play this game.

The wind will be blowing out.

Byrd picks off Inglett at 1st.

Then Scutaro hits a single and Rios takes Byrd Yard.

Not a great start (so far) to his Red Sox career, but I do like how quickly Byrd works.

I'd take 7 IP, 3R any day he starts. Not being able to do anything offensively is an entirely different thing.

I would take that anyday for 5th starter.. I just kinda of saw it coming for Sox offense after being rained out.

Of Course, Tito put him back out in the 8th.. and ****ing Alex Rios always Kills us! GEEZ

looks like its going to be other CG for Halladay. banghead.gif

Well after a somewhat shaky 1st inning, Byrd settled down and only made a couple mistakes through the rest of the game. I'd say it was an encouraging start, and the Red Sox could have gotten him the win if not for Roy Halladay, who is great as usual.
Let's hope the Sox can get to Roy in the 9th.

This Home Plate Umpire SUCKS! I hope I do not have to see him for tomorrow game.

Ugh. At least Pedroia saw to it that they didn't get shut out.

If anyone has earned a wide strike zone, it's Halladay. But that said...if he earned it, he certainly got it tonight. That pitch to end the game was 8 inches outside in real time, and every bit as much of a ball when I rewound and played it back in slo-mo.

Oh well. Solid effort from Byrd. Nothing you can do but hope for some offense when you're facing Halladay. Sox didn't catch any breaks...the lineout double play, couple of nice catches in the outfield. We'll get 'em tomorrow.

I was surprised he left him in to face Rios again there. Still, Halladay shut us down. Funny how bad Ellsbury's at bats get when he's at the top of the order, but I'll let him off the hook given the pitching.

He won't be behind the plate because they rotate them. He'll be one of the base umps tomorrow.
