Mike Scandura - Blown chances prove costly for Sea Dogs once again; Portland continues to leave runners on base, allowing Connecticut to rally for a one-run win.

Sunday's game was a microcosm of the series, in that the Sea Dogs left too many runners on base, 12 in this game and 49 in the series.

"The story of the whole series was they got guys on base and got them in and we got guys on base and didn't – unless they made a mistake," Portland Manager Arnie Beyeler said. "Our guys had to work for everything they got because (Connecticut pitchers) threw strikes and worked ahead in the count.

"We gave them opportunities and they took advantage of them."

Lost in the rubble was a commendable performance by Ryne Lawson, who made his second Double-A start after being recalled from Greenville early last week.

Although Lawson allowed six runs on seven hits in six innings, three of the runs were unearned because of two Portland errors. He also ended three Connecticut threats by inducing ground-ball double plays.

Willie T. Smith III - It's all in a day's work at the park

Rising at his apartment about seven hours before the Greenville Drive's scheduled game against South Atlantic League rival Lake County, outfielder David Mailman turned on the television and clicked the remote to "SportsCenter" on ESPN.

...

Once in uniform, Mailman headed to the batting cages underneath the stadium to take a few swings and get some individual help from batting coach Billy McMillon.

At about 3:30 p.m., Mailman and his teammates took the field to stretch, toss the baseball and do a little running before batting practice.

Afterward, at about 5:15 p.m., Mailman headed to the team clubhouse to relax, eat a light snack and watch more television.

Willie T. Smith III - Drive nearing one million fans

In the Drive's third season in Fluor Field, 963,693 fans have streamed through the gates. Sometime during the homestand, the team expects to top the 1 million mark in attendance and plans to celebrate it in a unique way.

...

We want to celebrate this because we believe it is an accomplishment not only for the Drive, but Greenville and the Upstate," deMaine said.
