No Drew or Lowell + Buchholz pitching. Sounds like a sure win tonight (It's the O's though, so who knows).

Who the hell is Montanez?
BamaBoSox
I remember a certain guy no-hitting the O's last season...

but, that guy hasn't pitched in a long, long time.
rominer
Damn. The closer we get to baseball having instant replay, the weirder the plays we seem to be seeing.

I don't know what the ground rule would be, but that looked like it hit the top of the wall, bounced into that railing, and then up and onto the field. Does that make it in play, or gone?

He's the guy who drove in the Orioles' first run.

Cripes, I've seen this movie before - and it sucks.

Walk the 9 hitter on 4 pitches to load the bases. This kid needs a shaking.
GreenBud
The no-hitter in his last start was easily the worst thing that ever happened to this kid's '08.
Red Sox Fan2
I love Buchholz. Another gem spun by Rocket II.

Flash in the pan.

This is some pitiful, goddamn baseball.

I keep telling myself that I gave up on Lester and shouldn't do the same with Buchholz. But I have to say his outings are much more painful to watch than when Lester struggled.
Todd Lazarchick
I seriously think we should just forfeit the nights he is supposed to pitch and give the guys some rest instead of wasting energy in a game. Seeing him pitch like this is hurting is trade value too banghead.gif

Buchholz should be sent down to Pawtucket immediately. Although I said this after his last start and turned out to be wrong, it might happen this time. There are a couple off-days coming up, including Thursday, so they might be able to get by with four starters for the time being until Wake gets back. Or they could bring up another starter.
Buchholz's raw stuff is just too good for him not to be effective again at some point in his future. I'm not sure what it would take, but he'll have all the necessary resources at his disposal. I think the Red Sox should plan on Buch being in AAA next year, go out and get all the starters Boston will need, and bring up Buch if he is doing well and one of the Boston starters is struggling or injured. OTOH, they might be able to trade him to a team that thinks they can turn Buch around.
BostontoNC
Tough to watch this and even worse, it's the second time in less than a week that a starter went less than 3. Very ugly. Tito had the quick hook out tonight. When the heck does Wake come back?
SFFM38
banghead.gif This team seems to be having a hard time to put "W" like 4 games in a row and or go 7-3 or 8-2 we seems to be winning short streaks and then back to losing. How the **** can we gain ground on Tampa Bay?? I just don't see that happening. espically if we fall back to 5.5 , This team NEEDS to go on a HOT STREAK badly

Like 10-3 to start the month? That kind of hot streak?

Tampa Bay is good. That's all. Hopefully we can chip away a game or two before the end of the month. If the Rays decide never to lose again, though, it's a moot point.
Youuuuk!
Seriously, why do we always lose on the same nights as Tampa Bay.

I'm just glad they lost. The Sox need to worry about winning games though, not what Tampa Bay does.

This is true, but every time Tampa Bay has lost lately we lose too. At least for the most part. It's just bad luck.
