Steven Krasner - PawSox 8, Chiefs 5 -- Struggling Corsaletti breaks out with 5 RBI

Jeff Corsaletti, batting a mere .193 with one homer and five RBI in his first 32 games and 109 at-bats for the PawSox, had a homer and four RBI last night. Corsaletti lofted a sacrifice fly in the first for the first run of the game and capped a five-run fifth-inning uprising by clubbing a three-run homer to right-center, giving the PawSox a 6-2 lead. … David Pauley retired the first 12 batters he faced in his 6 1/3-inning, seven-hit, four-run performance that netted him his league-leading 14th win, against only four losses. …. Joe Thurston and Sandy Madera each reached base four times on a pair of singles and two walks. … Dusty Brown went 3-for-4 with a walk. … Kyle Snyder allowed one run in 2 1/3 innings in his third game since returning from the disabled list. … Hunter Jones notched the final out, a whiff of Wayne Lydon, earning his seventh save.

Steven Krasner - PawSox’ Van Every, Carter miss thrill of chase

Van Every (24 homers) and Carter (24) each was forced out of the lineup because of an oblique strain, Van Every’s occurring on Aug. 6 while Carter’s injury cropped up the next day. While Carter remains on Pawtucket’s disabled list, finally advancing to practice swings yesterday, Van Every was cleared to return to action on Tuesday.

Van Every had to come out of Tuesday night’s game because of a stiff neck and remained sidelined for last night’s game against Syracuse at McCoy Stadium.

“It’s frustrating. You want to be out there with your teammates but you can’t be. It’s just something you have to deal with,” said Van Every yesterday as he sat in the clubhouse while the rest of the team was on the field for batting practice.

Van Every’s frustration was exacerbated on Tuesday night. Just when he thought he’d be able to play for the rest of the regular season and into the playoffs, should the PawSox make it, Van Every experienced neck trouble.

Brendan McGair - PawSox closing in on Scranton

David Pauley earned his league-best 14th win after tossing 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. Joe Thurston finished with two hits, two walks and two stolen bases.

Corsaletti arrived in Pawtucket immediately following the All-Star break. He was selected an Eastern League All-Star after batting .311 with 12 home runs and 50 RBI for Double-A Portland.

...

After collecting two hits in three trips Tuesday, Corsaletti followed up with a game-changing round tripper. With Pawtucket clinging to a 3-2 lead in the fifth, Corsaletti lost a Chris George offering into the right field bleachers.

Pauley was motoring along, retiring 12 consecutive Chiefs to begin the game. Syracuse starter Brian Wolfe matched Pauley through three innings before wildness caught up with the Chiefs right-hander in the fourth.

Wolfe’s night was through after he walked two of the first three batters he faced. Only 38 of his 70 pitches went for strikes, an unbalanced ratio that was helped out by four walks.

While the fourth was a productive one for the PawSox, which went up 1-0 on a Corsaletti sac fly, it was a particularly long one for Pauley to sit through. In addition to seven Pawtucket players batting, Syracuse made a pitching change.

Gassner helps Dogs top Curve; Dave Gassner pitches six strong innings and Portland scores all of its runs in the fifth inning to get past Altoona, 4-3.

ALTOONA, Pa — Dave Gassner became the first pitcher in franchise history to win six straight starts, helping the Portland Sea Dogs to a 4-3 victory over the Altoona Curve on Wednesday night.

...

Josh Reddick led off the inning with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Zach Daeges walked, Aaron Bates bounced a ground-rule double over the right-field wall to score Reddick.

The next batter, Lars Anderson, doubled to left field to drive in two and give Portland a 3-1 lead. Anderson went to third on a fly ball to right by Mark Wagner and scored on Mickey Hall's single.

Kevin Thomas - Buchholz and bobbleheads arrive together

In the minors, David Pauley ran his Pawtucket record to 14-4 (3.55 ERA), going 6 1/3 innings (7 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 2 K). Hmm, maybe Pauley gets another crack at the majors ... Dusty Brown (.286) went 3-for-4 ... Jeff Corsaletti (.195) hit his second home run.

The Sea Dogs enjoyed doubles in a 4-3 win. Jorge Jimenez (.272) and Aaron Bates (.278) had two apiece, and Lars Anderson (.343) hit a 2-run double ... Daniel Bard (2.11) got his 5th save (1 2/3, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K).

Kris Negron and Ryan Kalish both homered for Lancaster ... Blake Maxwell (3.2) went 7 innings (5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K).

Blake Maxwell and the JetHawks Shut Out Blaze 5-0

The offense set the stage for Lancaster early. Ryan Kalish hit a two-run homer in the first inning to put the JetHawks ahead. A Zak Farkes double set up a run in the second while a Yamaico Navarro single and stolen base did the same in the third. Kris Negron's solo home run in the fifth inning added another and proved to be more than enough for Blake Maxwell.

Rebounding from a couple of tough starts, Maxwell controlled the game throughout his seven innings. He surrendered only five hits without a walk and did not allow a single runner to advance even as far as second base. Josh Papelbon completed the game with two scoreless frames.

Navarro continued to rebound from a brief cold snap with two more hits. Aaron Reza also had two hits. Ryan Kalish has now driven in five runs over the last two games.

Bartolo Colon threw four hitless innings tonight for Pawtucket in an 8-3 win over Syracuse. Only threw 40 pitches. He's at least two starts away from getting his pitch count up to where he can help Boston. So he comes up when the rosters expand.
