RedSoxAnni
Game time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled starters: Tim Wakefield (7-8, 3.67) v. Andy Pettitte (13-9, 4.17)

The game will be on NESN

New York Weather: 3 pm observation at KLGA: wind out of the north at 12 mph with gusts to 16 mph, visibility 10 miles, few clouds at 25,000 feet, temperature 77F, DP 39F

Forecast: A clear and cool night... High pressure is building over the area, and with the wind out of the north, it could get into the low to mid-60s by the end of the game. The winds will diminish after sunset, but will still be out of the north, which is from left toward right.

Bring a sweater!

I'm not too optimistic about this week's series. For whatever reason, the Sox have had a dreadful time playing in Yankee Stadium late in the season in recent years when something is at stake:

2004: 1-5. Sox swept in late June, but win a game in September. Pedro and Lowe crap the bed when the Sox had a chance to make the East interesting.

2005: 1-2. Well, one win that weekend should have been enough to wrap up the division, or so went the thinking at the time. We did kick their butts in May in the Stadium, though.

2006: 3-1. This would have been a nice series win, but thanks to the 5-game sweep in August at Fenway, the race was already over.

2007: 1-5. Losing a May series didn't seem like a big deal at the time. Getting swept in August made September far scarier than it needed to be.

Yanks win the first two games rather easily, but Lester keeps the Sox in it on Thursday before the 'pen blows it in the 7th and 8th.

Bring it...

Let's say goodbye to the craphole in style!

The Yankees have about a 5% chance of making the playoffs, and the Yankee broadcasters are actually taking the team seriously as a playoff contender.

Let's take 'em out. The Sox can, by winning 2 of 3, make their chance for a playoff spot essentially nil. It starts tonight.

I'd like a 7 run lead by 10pm so I can watch Clinton's speech.

I didn't realize that Matsushi was off the DL.

"That one looks like it got through in slow motion. Everything was moving at a less-than-quick rate."

Including Jeter, one would assume.

What I like even less is the little BS move that Girardi pulled. After his bitching all of a sudden Pettitte started getting all the calls.
So f*cking classy of the Skanks.

Edit: And btw, why isn't Casey at first if he's 8 for 18 against Pettitte?
BigSlick
See ya Mr. "I only used HGH once."

It's too bad Coco sucks at getting on base. He really is a good baserunner when he gets on. Not just base stealer, but baserunner. He's had a few excellent reads in the past week or so.

That was amazing. I was waiting for the replay to see how bad Giambi blew it and then when they showed it, he clearly looked home immediately but had no play.

Right - he had no play at all. Excellent hustle. If Jeter scored from second on an infield hit, it would be replayed over and over, and we would hear all about intangibles, leadership and a winning attitude.

The YES announcers tried to spin it as if Giambi thought he had the third out and relaxed. The replays showed otherwise.

Pettitte did get squeezed a bit, I thought (in fairness).
CTLovesTheSox
Atta boy, Tito. Take him out one batter too late like always.
matty2578
It's a wonder sometimes how Manny Delcarmen can get anyone out at all. If it wasn't for his velocity, he'd be in Double A with that lack of command.
BigSlick
I know this goes against modern baseball thinking, but every once in awhile a situation comes up where you need to pitch your best pitcher when the game is on the line and that isn't always the 9th inning. This is one of those times. I'd love to see Paps finish the 7th and pitch the 8th and let someone else pitch the 9th.

I know it's a pipe dream, but this is the out we need to win the game.

Edit: or maybe Masterson would work as well
BillyJo
OK - so the good news is, Delcarmen is out of the game. We don't have to watch him pitch anymore tonight.
CTLovesTheSox
Q: What do A-Rod and my transmission have in common?

A: No clutch.
GreenBud
That's a good rookie.
matty2578
Nice job, kid. thumbsup.gif
BillyJo
After A-Rod's season last year, when he finally returned to the Yankees, I didn't think they would boo him for another 5 years. Boy, was I wrong.

Couldn't happen to a better player, and couldn't happen for a better fan base.

Some Yankee games (Tuesday nights, I think) are broadcast out of NYC on My9 instead of YES. My local ABC affiliate picks up those games.

And at 10, they switched to Convention coverage.

Edit: And for doing that, they can eat my ass.

That blows. Clinton isn't even going on until 10:25. Time to invest in EI.

If pitching doesn't work out for Joba Chamberlain, he could always go into comedy. He could do not-quite-convincing impressions, and call himself "Frank Caliendo."

I thought it was Frank Caliendo in the dugout next to that Carl Pavano impersonator.

BigSlick
WATER!!!

A fitting closing to ARod's night.
Edmund Dantes
Nice. Let's go out tomorrow and take the second to really put the hurt on them. 2 out of 3 would be really nice especially getting it on the front end.
BillyJo
Monster win tonight, particularly when you consider that this was pretty much a rehab start for Wakefield, and Pettitte is generally the heart and soul of the Yankees rotation ( whistle.gif ).

I really didn't like our chances going in to the series, but if the Sox can get ONE more in the Toilet, it would get really tough for NY.

And hope not to get a thunderstorm! I had the game up until one out and 2 on in the ninth when the signal went out. Still, it was pretty much in hand at that point.

Nice to see A-Rod hit into 2 DPs and commit an error. He really shows up for the Sox, doesn't he?!

Wake did fine considering he's back sooner than they wanted him to be. The pen, other than Delcarmen, looked fine. Nice job by Masterson.

And two strikeouts and 7 LOB for A-Rod . Looked like a two-seam fastball that Papelbon got him with to end the game. 94 mph and looked like it broke six inches or so into his hands. Unhittable.

Actually, I think we are 2-1. IIRC, Damon hit two against Vasquez during that June series in 2004.
