Being here in California I hate to see the Angels lose, but when it's the Red Sox that doesn't matter. The Angels fought well but have worse of a time getting clutch hits than the Sox do. Aybar was the hero last night and the goat tonight, that's just the way things go. We beat a very good Angels team and we all should be proud.
Now on to Tampa Bay. Jeez. By next week I predict we will hate this team more than the Yankees. Over-under on beanball wars: four? This will be a grudge series. There is no feel good story in TB, their fans suck, their stadium sucks, and I hope that most of the fans this weekend at the Trop will be yelling "Let's Go Red Sox!!!"

Well, being in NorCal, I have nooooo problem with the Angels losing. I do, however, like Scioscia as a manager, not as much as I like Francona, but he's one of the best. This year's Angels team could have mailed it in after game 2, but didn't. Back to NorCal, I'm looking forward to a WS down the road with Jon Lester starting against Tim Lincecum. Of course, a bazillion other things have to get improved for the Giants before that will happen. Now spear the Rays!

Tough. Scioscia knows the umpires got it right, he's not bitching as much as his players (thank gawd Varitek performed the rundown perfectly...he could have screwed it up by throwing to Lowrie covering the bag). And from my point of view as a slightly more neutral Red Sox fan (with my Mariner affiliations), NEITHER team got an obvious benefit from the home plate umpire throughout this series. I think whoever was behind the plate in each game was equally bad (or good) for both teams.
The Angels' defense let them down. I thought the Red Sox played exceptionally well in the field -- and it's about time. Over the past 25 years I've seen some pretty awful defensive Red Sox teams -- if they weren't bad up the middle, one or another or most of their outfield was a minus defensively.
I sorta hope it's a Red Sox-Dodgers World Series, and Manny's defense proves to be the Dodgers' demise.

Big game for Lester, and I'm betting Pdroia breaks out of the slump. I have the Sox winning 5-2. I'm not to be denied the pleasure of quoting this post tomorrow, after the sox win 5-2. So bank on a win, and bank on it being 5-2.
Damn!
Oh well, I was half right!
As for the Angels, they just need about 80 years in between WS victories with the occaisional smack down by the sox mixed in and we'll be their Yankees (from 1918-2004).
Oh and Lackey? SUCK IT.
"[On Sunday] they scored on a pop fly they called a hit, which is a joke," said Lackey, referring to a popup that was misplayed into three runs. "[On Monday], they score on a broken-bat ground ball and a fly ball anywhere else in America [except in Fenway Park]. And [Pedroia's] fist-pumping on second like he did something great."

Why would the Angels have mailed it in after game 2? "We won 100 games this year, but we just lost two close ones, so let's stop trying." No matter who their manager was they weren't about to mail in game 3.
Not that I think Scioscia is a terrible manager, I can see the line of reasoning for the squeeze play there, but I would guess that there was an element of small ball hubris involved.

John Lackey is a whiny ass bitch.
The Angels are all whiny ass bitches.
Buck Martinez and Chip Caray should really apply for the Angels announcing duties.
Kevin Youkilis looks like Yukon Cornelius from "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer".
Chone Figgins can't even spell his own name correctly.
Craig Sager is without a doubt the worst dressed man in America.
Mike Lowell is one of the toughest bastards in baseball, I'm surprised he was able to go as long as he did.
10pm start times suck for those of us on the east coast that have to get up and actually go to work the next day.
Torii Hunter has two I's in his name but the two on his head couldn't see that Kendrick wasn't gonna make a move for that pop-up.

OK, I always ask 'who does that?' when a commentator says something like "he never gives up on an at bat", or a "team mailed it in", but how about what happened to the Angels last year? As soon as Ortiz and Manny went deep on them in game 3, they sure looked like they sulked, if not gave up. This year, losing two in your home park and then going to a park where the home team is very hard to beat, if a team ever is going to be severely discouraged, maybe a few players go out and hit some Boston night spots the night before and play like shite...it happens.
Off topic, whole I'm here, people that can't get EEI, NESN, whatever, there are a lot of people calling into the Jim Rome show (for those that can stand him) about the game. Funny hearing Orange County people actually pissed off about something. Too bad Rome has 3 guests calling in also, all re football. That may divert the baseball slant to the show.

Yeah. I don't get this at all. I'm here in the heart of what the Angels claim is their territory, and I'm thrilled to see them lose. Not just to the Red Sox, but anytime (with some obvious exceptions).
I guess bob likes his neighbors better than I do. Or is more willing to call himself a Californian. Or is just wired differently (which is probably a healthy thing).
I'm loving the "the better team didn't win" crap coming from the Angels. Hey, they might even be right. As long as you're willing to discount every meaningful statistic in every phase of the game.

Lackey was priceless. I'm actually a bad loser too and I don't really blame him except don't tell me the Angels are better. Too bad they didn't go at it like Reggie and Billy years ago. Bonds/Kent, Zambrano/Barrett were a couple other very entertaining dugout fights. Manny/Youks?

Nah, you heard that "better team didn't win" endlessly from ESPN/Fox etc. etc. analysts, for several years in fact. Sometimes I hate how these sports news organizations run a subject into the ground.
Now, at least, the Angels can be that "better team didn't win" topic of conversation.
