Terry Francona's soon-to-be-released book (written with CHB) contains some pretty interesting nuggets regarding my favorite owners.

For example:

http://insidesportsi...-red-sox-years/

Quote

The former Sox skipper tells-all about a front office (principal owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner and president and CEO Larry Luchino), that grew inattentive toward baseball, but obsessed with image. After a third place finish in an injury-depleted 2010 season, marketing consultants were hired by team executives. Their findings? Get more star power. Red Sox G.M. Theo Epstein says in the excerpt:

“They told us we didn’t have any marketable players. We need some sexy guys. Talk about the tail wagging the dog…We’d become too big. It was the farthest thing removed from what we set out to be

This brilliant concept is what lead us directly to the nightmare that was the past two seasons.

Dear Douchebags,

Please sell the team. You suck at your jobs worse than Matt Schaub sucks at his.

Sincerely,

GoNM

Ortiz, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Youkilis, Papelbon, Lester, Buchholz, Varitek... Not a single marketable player in the bunch in 2010.

Nope not one. Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez were uber marketable when they were here. Just look at how many Dunkin Donuts and Vitamin water ads that they did.

If you hire marketing consultants, and the best they can come up with is "we could market a different product," then they are incompetent. That's your first problem right there.

Pete Abraham tweeted the following:

The line that will rile people up? Tom Wener telling Tito they need to win in "more exciting" ways.

I just threw up in my mouth.

Did you spit it out, or swallow it?

Pretty clear the person who started this thread and a few who responded swallowed it. Savvy Boston sports fans check to see what has been taken out of context.

As for the owners, yeah, it's too bad the Frank McCourt bid wasn't accepted when the Trust sold. His group would have done a far better job of upgrading Fenway and won more than two World Series.

Whether they love, like, or hate baseball, these owners will never be the worthless trash that once was Art Modell.

Yeah good point. If you criticize the current ownership that means you wish Frank McCourt had become the owner.

Could you possibly kiss the Red Sox ownership asses more?

At least we know you swallow.

Not saying they're perfect. That said, I have two trophies in my corner. You have CHB.

True, but the argument could also be made that Tito and Theo have 2 trophies and without them the current owners have a .426 winning percentage.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Terry Francona was involved in the book as well. I would believe him over the lying assholes in the ownership group.

And I wasn't aware you had anything to do with the two trophies but since they are in your corner...

I think GoNM and Cambridge need to put on the gloves to settle this matter. Twelve rounds. No kidney punching. Steel cage match.

Why restrict kidney punching?

Good point. Someone's probably going to be pissing blood at the end of this match regardless of any kidney punches. Lets leave the kidney punching in. I have GoNM winning in the 10th round.

I had a feeling that the Bobby Valentine hire was more for a ratings boost. The owners knew that he would add drama and tension, equating to higher ratings, in theory. It's basically the same idea as a reality show. They seemed to get the desired behavior, but not the desired result. Somewhere along the line the ownership forgot that the best way to get ratings in baseball is to field a winning team. In fact, you don't even have to field a team with sexy names. As long as they win games tickets and merchandise will sell. I want to believe that they have rediscovered that principle this time around. We'll see how this offseason's moves will translate to wins.

Just read an excerpt from the book where Francona tells the story about Game 4 of the 2004 World Series when Manny got into an argument with Yadier Molina. Molina had accused Ramirez of trying to steal there signs. Francona came out and told the home plate umpire that Manny didn't even know his own team's signs.
