I received the following PM from new member "Lancelot"

Quote

Dear Red Sox Fan,

If you like this idea, *please* take action!

We should use the capability of the internet to mount a very fast public campaign to convince Terry Francona to come back to celebrate at Fenway this Friday, April 20th.

He has publicly communicated the hurt he feels from last season. But he was so important in winning the World Series championships, ending "The Curse" along the way. He was so well loved and admired by fans here, and Boston is a sports town; it is almost de rigueur for athletes to say that "the Boston fans are The Best."

Why don't we do a viral invitation to him and to John Henry, so we can get Francona here after all?

Please join me in getting the ball rolling, by whatever means you can. Every effort will add up!

Thank you,

Terry Mase

Terry,

I completely agree that it is a shame that Francona has chosen to not take part in Friday's festivities. With that said, I completely agree with his reasons. This team has an incredibly long history of ripping people on their way out the door and I don't blame Tito one bit for being pissed.

Not only that, but if you want to start a letter writing campaign, it's best to include where to send letters/emails/phone calls.

With that said, I hope you decide to stick around our little corner of RSN.

I got the email as well, and I have mixed feelings about this. I agree with BigSlick here. I would have done the same thing Francona did. He was completely disrespected by the team and it can take a long time to get over that. The Sox FO has done the same thing with others in an effort to discredit them with fans. Pedro was a target, and possibly Nomar.

A better idea would be to find Francona's email and get a LOT of people to email him and tell him that he was the best manager we knew in our lifetimes and that we will never forget what he did with the Sox.

Great idea, Anni. And hopefully someday Francona does get the ovation at Fenway that he deserves.

Couldn't agree more. No issues yet with Valentine, but he's got some big shoes to fill...

Pedroia may disagree:

"I don't know what Bobby's trying to do, but that's not the way we do things here," said Pedroia. "Maybe that stuff works in Japan."

Seeing that I didn't get a message from Lancelot, I now hate Tito and am glad he won't be at Fenway.

Apparently our letter-writing campaign has paid off.

And here I was about to go through my contacts to get Tito's number from another contact (let's just say that he wasn't shy about giving it to ladyfolk).

Maybe Lancelot really is Tito and wanted to be shown some love here before changing his mind.

I hope Tito finds a way to ask Lucchino and Henry about their progress in finding out the leaks for the story, in a very public forum.

If Francona wasn't so shy about giving his number out, then maybe he was his own leak.

I had to check to confirm while I was peeing a few minutes ago, but, nope, I'm not a lady. Sorry to ruin your hopes and dreams.

I've heard from at least a few women who've met him out at a bar that he gave them his number. It'd be a real kick in the ass if Tito did end up being his own leak.

That doesn't ruin his hopes and dreams. Merely modifies them.

Not every bald guy with glasses and a Red Sox hat is Terry Francona.

That's news to me. I thought 1/2 of them were Tito Francona and the other 1/2 werw Michael Chiklis.

WERW was the shitty college radio station that I got banned from. It's not a verb.

Did you get banned because you were a grammar Nazi?

No. I got banned for flyering the whole campus about my crappy show's unauthorized "Holiday Beer Special." (And for having like 20 people in the studio, which apparently was 10 times the legal limit, since we operated out of a broom closet)

The station GM (probably correctly) thought that the fascist student government, which was dedicated to ensuring that none of our "student activity fee" went towards any sort of "activities" that any "students" were interested in, would see hundreds of flyers that contained both the words "beer" and "WERW" and decide that the $35 annual operating budget that they gave us was too much.

I don't think I was given nearly enough credit for the fact that I got the flyers, several pizzas, and a keg of beer for free in exchange for "advertising."

I will never get over the pain of being denied the opportunity to have "Carol Of The Beer Bottles" performed live on air.

This is why I am an angry, bitter shell of a man today.
