Per WFAN breaking news.

Goodbye HOF. Contempt of Congress as well?

By the way, if I am MLB, I would be testing Giambi like a race horse right now.

If this IS TRUE, then I pity him. If he did not take steroids and this is some stupid rumor without any evidence, then the FAN needs a vicious beating.

Whoa. This is huge.

Anyone want to take a guess as to how long before Raffi appeals or files a lawsuit?

Poor Raffy. I hope this isn't true. When he got his 500 hrs. 3000 hits or whatever it was, I was impressed by his interview after when he said he was "honored to be in this elite group," but felt he "really didn't belong there." I thought it was very humbling on his part, and I found a lot more respect for the man.

And I agree Jack. They HAVE to start testing Jason. So what if he's already been through the agony? I fear he got imunity when he confessed, though that's probably not true. Regardless, I doubt these homers are the result of "confidence" like he claims.

I agree with you that they should but I do not think it will happen. For some reason, the uprising of Gimabi's career has become a feel good story for MLB. The last thing they want right now is for him to test positive for steroids. They want the fan to think that he saw the error of his ways and that through hard work and dedication, he regained his elite status. (Cough....cough...BS...cough....cough).

The way I look at it, Giambi had 2 ways to go. He could watch his career end while accepting his demotion to the minor leagues. Or he could start taking the juice again and try to save his career. It is my guess that he chose the latter.

I am not saying this as a disgruntled Red Sox fan that wants to see everything bad happen to the Yankees. I am seeing this as a guy that has loved the game of baseball from birth and who has a hard time believing that a guy can cheat his way to stardom, stop taking roids, fall back down to the level he would have been without the juice, then suddenly (and I mean SUDDENLY) start mashing the ball again.

If true, this would be very odd if it was from a recent test. If it was the release of results from a test done before the steroid scandal became big news, that would make more sense. It's hard to believe that someone who has been hinted as a steroid-user would be using now. Very odd, and it will interesting to hear what the real story is.

Well he's not in the lineup today FWIW, although with Buehrle going for the ChiSox he'd probably be sitting anyway.

The Baltimore Sun is confirming that a "major star" is about to be suspended, and they got that info from MLB itself...

D'oh. If true, how dumb is Palmeiro to get caught in this day of increased scutiny.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The fact that this story isn't being reported anywhere else yet, not even one attributing WFAN as the source, suggests there's quite a bit of scepticism about its veracity.

EDIT: I'm about to look very foolish, aren't I?

Piece of shit? That's a little harsh, dont you think?

Confirmation?

Palmeiro suspended for drug policy violation

By Hal Bodley, USA TODAY

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Rafael Palmeiro, who testified before Congress on March 17 that he'd never used steroids, was suspended by Commissioner Bud Selig on Monday for 10 games for violating baseball's drug policy.

I'd amend that to add "if true". I'd like to hear from Palmiero first.

Was it steriods, or some other "banned substance'? (I know, we don't know yet, I'm just wondering here....)

And a conspiracy theory about a Giambi feel-good story occurs to me as well, wouldn't the same theory apply to the guy who just joined the 3000 hit club? I'd be shocked that MLB would let one get strung up, and actively protect the other.

All in all, just a wierd development.

I still haven't found the story anywhere on the net..which makes me a bit suspicious. This would be absolutely shocking if true. And if true, "poor Rapphy" my ass. After the Congressional hearings, etc, if he was stupid enough to do em, he should get the max.

Baseball will be the least of his problems. His lying to Congress will be much worse, esp with how emphatic he was about it.

I thought that might be the case, which is why I mentioned a possible lawsuit. Wasn't Raffi one of the guys who threatened to sue Canseco?

Regarding Giambi - if he is using, you can be sure it's something that will not be detected by the current MLB testing program.
