Holy crap! One of my friends, from the Philly area hinted at this. She said that the Philly talk radio was talking about somebody testing positive for roids and was gonna be outed after HOF weekend/trading deadline...I didn't think it would've been him...wow this is huge!

So a violation of the drug policy. Doesn't specifically say steriods, but I think it is a relatively safe assumption.

I thought MLB didn't release the results of the tests? Just that if there was a positive test on their list of banned substances, then a player gets suspended without us actually knowing what they took.

This day of increased scrutiny? I had thought that the day of increased scrutiny was back in Spring Training, and that there were only occasional random tests now.

A whole bunch of players who tanked early in the season have made remarkable comebacks: Giambi tops the list, and Sheffield is another; both were alleged to have used steroids previously. It appears to me that a whole bunch of players were gambling that they wouldn't get caught. Now that a big name has apparently been caught, let's see the impact.

Hall of Fame? Barry Bonds might still make it with his stats, but Palmeiro...this is really going to dent his chances for as long as BBWAA members remember the steroid scandal. Palmeiro may not make the HOF in his lifetime.

By the way, speaking of Jose's book, wasn't there a pitcher who used to be on the Red Sox who was alleged by Canseco to have used steroids, too? :eyes

was it steroids or a 'banned substance', also they might have figured out a way to beat a masking agent on a test so he thought that he was safe, or I'm not sure whether there is a test for human growth hormone or androgel, maybe they have one now

Absolutely. I was about to post this, but this gives Canseco quite a bit of credibility.

If people are saying that Barry Bonds should be banned from the HOF because of steroid use, then shouldn't Palmeiro??? Palmeiro doesn't strike me as the asshole that Bonds is, but if we want Bonds banned, we should hold the same for Raffy.

I kind of feel bad for the guy, but at the same time, he deserves whatever ramification stem from this.
