This is a rather harsh assessment.
What exactly did he "give up"?
--One run in the 4th on a double and then a bleeder two-out single just out of Renteria's reach.
-- two runs in the 5th on a single, double and two straight sacrifices by chicago
-- A deep home run on an hanging curve to konerko
With the exception of the homerun, Chicago wasn't exactly beating the cover off the ball. The four runs he gave up are only magnified because the Red Sox did nothing offensively.
Schilling isn't where he was last year, but he was much improved from his first two starts. Much improved. Don't forget he worked out of a no-out "manny triple" in the third without a run scoring.
To say his starting status should be in doubt because of today's game is just laughable.

Last outing he started off bad but finished strong. People said "oh, he worked out the early kinks, he's coming around." This time, he started off well, but then gave up runs in three consecutive innings. I appreciate as much as anyone what he did last year, but now, if he was even the fifth pitcher in the rotation, Joe Blow, management should be getting impatient by now. His era is still well over 6. Being Curt Schilling, I suppose he'll get all the chances in the world to work it out. I watch what other teams do, and it seems like when an ace goes out for injury, then comes back, he's the ace again. Hardin, Prior, Sheets, even Wells, for example, came back strong. I know Schilling's injury was more serious, but, at some point you have to call a spade a spade, and an ace an ace. He's no ace, still, and I don't know if he ever will be again.
