That didn't help his chances of becoming a closer!
Wake was good, Paps was fantastic, Donnelly couln't find the strike zone with a map and compass, and Okaji gave up a HR against a mediocre RHH.

I wish Francona let Donnelly try to work his way out of the jam.

Sorry Paps, not going to happen, it's too long for you and too short for me.
He looked great today though.

He tried that 2 runs ago. When a guy jus doesn't have it you have to pull him. It was a good decision. It just didn't work.
Francona takes some grief for not pulling pitchers until it's too late -- give him some credit when he gets it right.

I think they are trying him out against righties to see if he can be served as more than just a LOOGY.
Yes, and he did face 1 lefty -- I think he gave up a double. Pretty good against the RHH's other than the HR tho.

But it's ST. Pull a guy when he looks like he's struggling during the regular season but in ST let him work his way out, unless he looks too inept.

Oh man, we might have a really special 1-2-3-4 this year.

And so did Bobby Scales.

I was watching that inning. He was doing something wrong and settling himself into some kind of bad habit. Every time Cash talked to him he threw some strikes and then lost his command again.
If a guy 's settling himself into a bad habit it might make sense to pull him and let him get some work in with the pitching coach to get out of it.
