He'll sit out the season

Not the ideal team by any means, but I'm glad he's finally landing somewhere. Here's to hoping he has a lot left in the tank.

Agreed, by all accounts he was choosing between the Phillies & the Rays. So he either has to pitch in the AL East, or that launching pad in Philadelphia. Not the most ideal choices.
I wish him the best, I'd love to see him do well.

Pedro might have been somewhat hesitant to return to the American League.

I'm moving to southeastern PA for grad school at the end of the month, so I might finally get my chance to see Pedro pitch. I always wanted to see him back when he dominated in Boston, but every time we got tickets it was ****ing Frank Castillo or Tim Wakefield 7 times. I might just get to see him for once, albeit in a roundabout way.

I kept getting Castillo, Wakefield, Lowe, or Burkett (I swear I got almost all of his home starts in his one season in Boston). It was maddening. I finally ended up getting tickets to see Pedro once in 2002 vs. the Jays and once in 2003 vs. the Yankees.
It's 6 hours to Philly from my place, if he's pitching on a Saturday I might be inclined to zip down there.

It's funny how it always works out like that. Every time I went as a kid, it was the back of the rotation. I remember one year, must've been 2001 where I was waiting all spring for the school trip to the game, and frickin' Frank Castillo gave up like 5 in the first inning to ruin it. I also saw Wakefield a disproportionate amount of times, Arroyo once, Lowe once, Burkett(and Wake in relief) in the 2003 ALDS. My luck has been turning around though, I caught Schilling in 07 and Lester against Baltimore this May.
Hopefully I'll be able to time it to get to a Pedro game. I reckon that unless it's a Mets or Braves game, there should still be tickets available a week in advance.

Do I have a point? Yeah. Derek Jeter is awesome.
Pedro would make Jeter his bitch in a bare knuckled fight.
Do I have a point? Yeah. 89-90 doesn't seem like much. Wake up the Bambino & Pedro will drill him in the ass.

Well, when you don't have Jeter and Soriano diving into pitches your HBP total goes down significantly.

As I'm sure it's no surprise to anyone, I am excited and think that he most certainly has enough left in the tank to surprise a few people the rest of the way. Considering the damage to his hamstring last year, and dealing with the terminal illness, and subsequent death, of a parent - who wouldn't have thought Pedro would have a rough go about it on the baseball diamond.
He is further removed from the surgery, further rested from the nagging injuries - and yes, he is older. However, he was effective in the WBC (6 IN - 1 H - 0 ER - 0 BB - 6 K) and went 3 Innings in a simulated game on a Tuesday for the Phils, and followed it up with another 3 Innings on a Friday. They wanted to see how his arm bounced back, and then they signed him. That tells me that they more than liked what they saw.
It's pretty easy for people to forget that in 2005, when he was close to a Cy contender for the Mets (The bullpen blew 6 games for him after the 7th inning) he was sweating to top 90/91 mph. For the first 2.5 months of 2006, he was the best pitcher in baseball (go check the stats if you don't believe me) - until the Marlins game when he fell down the stairs, and then got beat up in Boston, and then the surgery came. At this point, he was 88-90. So, if he can get it up to that velocity again, but without pain and with better health, who really wants to be against him?
I won't....

edit: Is is "a AA start" or "an AA start"? I guess it depends on if you read it as "double a" or "a-a"

No, I'd see it as "an" either way.

I think I was most impressed by his ability to strikeout 11 batters while throwing only 82 pitches. From most accounts, he worked 88-91 consistently, and threw 6 pitches in his final inning that clocked 93.
This is going to be interesting....

He has moved into an apartment in Philadelphia, but has spent more time in the car with his driver, Brian. (Pedro doesn't know Brian's last name. But he's very famous in Philly, the righthander said.) Brian has driven Martinez to Allentown, Lakewood, N.J., and Reading in the span of six days.
Martinez said he felt physically weak from all the travel. So he'd like nothing more than for his 11-strikeout performance for the Reading Phillies against the Trenton Thunder last night to be his last stop on this circus ride.
"I hope so," Martinez said. "I don't want to ride in more cars with Brian. I love Brian, but I'd much rather leave him tickets to come see me in Philly."
Quote
Making his first start since Friday at Lehigh Valley, when he allowed one run through four innings before unraveling in a four-run fifth, Martinez threw 60 of his 82 pitches for strikes against double-A Trenton. He threw as hard as 93 m.p.h. in the sixth inning.
