In all seriousness, it's tough to look at George through the eyes of lifelong Yankees fans when you're a lifelong Red Sox fan. One thing I will always remember about George was his participation in the annual Jimmy Fund/Red Sox Foundation event. He had no problem putting the baseball/business stuff aside and made contributions to his enemy's favorite cause. Otherwise, he ran a baseball club that gave the city and it's fans what he thought they deserved.
RIP George
My thoughts and prayers for his family and friends.
He was definitely not too attached to his money:
Asked about what drove his philanthropy, Steinbrenner told the St. Pete Times in 2005: “I don’t want to die with all this money. I want to give to the people. I don’t want to be the richest man in the cemetery.”
Though, that was evident if you watched how his team operated during free agency as well :P
