How much have you had to drink tonight?
Not nearly enough.
And/or not nearly as much as the average baseball writer.
I think that Youkilis is completely overlooked because although he is not only THE anchor of the Sox lineup, but absolutely one of the top 5 hitters in the AL, he doesn't do it by hitting 40 home runs and asking for a trade in the weeks when he isn't threatening to finish his career in Boston. The media can't comprehend the lack of a 90 HR, 250 RBI Papi/Manny combo.
But he is f**king good at baseball.

How can the Red Sox survive without Manny?
Not very well, judging by the results.
That being said, I'm okay with letting his juiced ass go, but this lineup of replacement is pure fail, injuries or no injuries.
Youks and Beltre and pray for rain is not going to cut it in the division with the Rays and Yanks.

Well, whaddya know?
Sox hit a rough patch and look who's back.
But hey, you are nothing if not consistent, Jolmy. Nobody can take that away from you.
Oh, by the way, you understand that the Sox lead the majors in runs scored, even with the injuries, right?

I think the point is this:
The Red Sox' top 2 left fielders have combined to start just 41 of the team's 92 games. The 51 missed games are due to injuries caused by collisions with Adrian Beltre on "hustle plays" in no man's land.
It is safe to say that Manny Ramirez would have been nowhere near Adrian Beltre on either of those plays. So, factor in 10 games lost due to "hamstring" issues, another 7 games due to wanting to be traded before deciding instead that he wants to finish his career in Boston (and realistically, that probably wouldn't have happened for another week or so still), and you're looking at 75 starts in left field by your #1 left fielder if Manny is still in Boston, as opposed to those 41 starts from your top two.
The Red Sox would clearly have benefitted from having a slow and lazy left fielder who can hit NL pitching – and nobody fits that bill better than Manny Ramirez.
