It looks to me like the Sox are willing to move some parts - broken ones. DelCarmen and Ramirez are both being dangled according to reports that I refuse to link to. I think that makes sense, neither can get outs right now, might as well trade them for similarly broken parts and see if the return can do something. I know Barajas was discussed, but catcher hardly seems important now that Victor is back. Werth is a waste too - get him in free agency if you want him that badly. They will soon be overstocked in the outfield when Ellsbury's back.

I saw a something on bleacher report from Gammons that said the Sox were interested in Russell Martin, which makes no sense at all with Martinez back and Martin having a horrible offensive year.

I think that was pure speculation, because the Dodgers don't want to pay his arb rate, he was thinking they were looking to move him. I can see him fitting in as backup catcher, and moving Vic to DH against lefties, getting Russell added at bats that way...but probably a reach for Gammo.

Speaking of Eric Gagne, I hear Engel Beltre will be making his MLB debut as a 21-22 year old.

Scott Downs is good, but he's 34 and will cost a fortune in prospects. I'd rather see Bowden/Richardson/Coello/Mia Hamm/rominer get a try than barf up the top prospects in the organization for a few unknown pics and a good bullpen guy for two months.

It would appear that the asking price for a 2 month rental of Mr. Downs is a Casey Kelly or a Jose Iglesias.

Quote

Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos has the best reliever available in Scott Downs, and he knows it. Check out these asking prices for two months of Downs' services, courtesy of George A. King III of the New York Post: Joba Chamberlain from the Yankees, Casey Kelly or Jose Iglesias from the Red Sox. With almost 80 hours remaining until the trade deadline, it doesn't hurt to ask.

One thing to consider is Scott Downs #s vs. the Yanks & Tampa Bay...they're not good.

Quote

Over the past three seasons, Downs’ numbers against the three AL East powers — the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays — are much worse than his numbers against all other clubs. The Yankees, Red Sox and Rays are batting .289/.379/.454 against Downs since the start of the 2008 season. All of his other opponents are batting .205/.266/.276. Downs’ ERA against the three AL East powers during that time is 4.35. His ERA against all other clubs is 1.66.

My how Joba's stock has fallen. He obviously can't take steroids or HGH anymore and it appears to be having a negative effect. His 100+ fastball is a flat 93. And they can;t trade him straight up for a middle reliever.

The rumors mill seems very dry this year. I haven't read about the Sox being in on anyone. Trades will inevitably go down tomorrow as the sellers realize their window is closing, but everyone's playing it close to the vest this year. I'm not even hearing much about the Yankees, other than them possibly being in on Dunn or, more likely, Berkman.

Mike Lowell seemingly isn't going to be activated, but I don't see any serious buyers for him. Texas has moved on, and there are only 6 playoff contenders in the AL anyway. So the Sox will have to pay a major chunk of his remaining salary just to unload him and keep a roster spot open for a younger player. I really like Mike Lowell, but there's just nothing to do with him in this situation. He'll probably get dumped onto a non-playoff team like an Oakland or Detroit where he can play regularly, while the Sox pay his contract.

Rotoworld is starting to pick up some steam, sounds like Berkman to the Yanks is imminent. It also says we're in on Jim Edmonds, but he doesn't know whether he wants to leave Milwaukee(why anyone would want to live in Milwaukee is beyond me, and that's not even counting the fact that they're out of the race in the weakest division in the league).

Well...hopefully Lance Berkman breaks his leg and will be out for the year, but not until after the Yankees give up the farm.

The sad part is that not only are they not giving up shit, the ****ing Astros are paying most of his salary.

This has to be some kind of anti-trust violation

Ramon Ramirez sent to San Francisco, no idea for what.

And Hemrida's been DFAd and Kalish promoted. Theo could've done this any time he wanted, but waited until 3:30 on deadline day to throw the media off the scent of him sitting on his ass and not improving this team when it has some pretty striking holes.

Meanwhile the Yankees get three great assets for jack shit, while Houston and Cleveland are paying them money to cover it. This is absolute bullshit.

For those Twitter lovers, Keith Law just re-Tweeted this gem: "The Yankees are finally addressing that gaping hole on their disabled list by going after Kerry Wood."

I believe they were the PTBNL (Posters To Be Named Later) who were part of the infamous Mascho trade years ago.

PTBNL+ taking back Ingram. I'd pass on that trade any day.
