Dave Roberts becomes new Padres 1B coach

Good to see that Dave is doing well these days. I'm sure he'll excel at being a 1B coach. Best of luck.

That's actually quite surprising, my understanding is that most MLB coaches have to work their way up the ladder from the minor leagues before getting a 1B/3B/Bench Coaching position with a MLB club. Good for him.

A former base-stealer with some intelligence would make the perfect 1b coach. How much grooming in the minors do you really need for that? I thought most 1B/3B/Bench coaches were drinking/hunting buddies of the manager. They got the jobs regardless of how well they handled those duties in the minors.

Great news. Not enough good things can happen to DR as far as I am concerned.

The GM winked at him when he went into the interview.

Maury Wills once told Dave Roberts that there will come a point when everybody will know that he has to be a first base coach, and he will be that first base coach. When he got out there, he knew that was what Maury Wills was talking about.
