I'm sure you've all read reports or seen the RSS feeds, but John Farrell is rumored to have been chosen to be the new manager of the Toronto Blue Jays. I'd hate to see him go, but more importantly, I'd hate to see him go to a place where I will hate him. Regardless, this leaves the pitching coach position open for the Red Sox. It will be interesting to see how they fill it.

Also, there are still a handful of other MLB manager jobs open and DeMarlo Hale could be a candidate for a couple after losing out on the Blue Jays gig. I saw Tim Bogar's name come up at least once. The Red Sox could very quickly be out a pitching coach, bench coach and 3b coach. 2011 should be a new look coaching staff for this team.

I wonder if Tito can pull a Bill Belichick and not officially fill those positions. /sarcasm

The first person to suggest that Jason Varitek would be a good candidate to replace Farrell is going to get a text message containing a picture of my wee-wee.

Nice try, but Heidi Watney is convinced that Jason Varitek can still contribute on the field.

And she doesn't post here.

And I think most of the rest of us canceled our data plans after Brett Favre started texting us.

If Farrell leaves, I'd like to see John Wetteland get the job.

I assume that this would just be for a couple of good years, after which Mariano Rivera would claim the job.

And if they stay in-house, I think Bob Kipper would be the best choice, although Mike Cather would be good as well. An intriguing in-house option would be Dick Such, who has a lot of big-league experience in the position.

I don't think there is any place on this board for this kind of language, even if there are only a few of us left. We need a mod to review this post and take appropriate action.

My father would like to be considered for Boston's next pitching/thirdbase coach. He has absolutely no experience but feels with great certainty (and has for 60 years) that he could do a much better job than any of the previous "goddamned morons".

Thank you for your consideration.

Curt Young has opted not to return to the A's, so he would be another viable option.

Nick Cafardo says that Young is likely headed for Arizona. What's coloradojack's father's number?

The Yankees have cut ties with their pitching coach, Dave Eiland.

I think that is what ultimately got him fired. CC's idea was much better.

John Farrell? Irreplacable. Who else is going to take a 95 million dollar pitching staff and yield average results? He's a genius I tell you.

Yeah, but with Farrell managing Toronto, they'll be able to destroy Josh Beckett at wi....oh, right.

Buster Olney thinks that Young could be coming to Boston.

Didn't he just sign a 2-year extension with St. Louis?

Edit - Yeah, this literally just happened.

That's too bad. Would have been nice to see Duncan in a Red Sox uniform.
