I still stand by my statement in the Panic or Euphoria thread where I said, about 2 hours ago, that Dennys Reyes ate 3 lbs of bacon. Unfortunately for Reyes, the bacon lead to his DFAment rather than just a DL stint.

You can say I called it if you want. I don't mind.

Peter Abraham reports:

According to MLB's transaction wire, Dennys Reyes cleared waivers and was outrighted to Class AAA Pawtucket.

The lefty reliever was designated for assignment on April 8 after four rocky outings. Reyes is not on the Pawtucket roster yet. The Sox have sent him to extended spring training.

Wheeler and Jenks to DL; Hill and Atchison recalled

Sleepy morning here, but the Red Sox are making moves in their bullpen. Lefty Rich Hill and righthander Scott Atchison are active for today's game after coming in from Scranton where Pawtucket was playing.

Both Dan Wheeler (calf) and Bobby Jenks (biceps) are heading to the disabled list.

Terry Francona announced the moves. He also said it was unlikely that Daisuke Matsuzaka would make his scheduled start on Friday. That means someone else. Could that be Alfredo Aceves? Aceves was scheduled to make a start for Pawtucket tonight. we'll see if he's yanked from that one.

Scutaro on DL, Iglesias up


A major league source told Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe on Saturday night that the Red Sox are preparing to place Marco Scutaro on the 15-day disabled list with a “left side injury” and that shortstop prospect Jose Iglesias will be promoted from Triple-A Pawtucket to provide middle infield depth in Scutaro’s absence.

Iglesias, 21, is far from ready for big league action. He’s hit just .253/.278/.253 with zero extra-base hits and 17 strikeouts in 92 plate appearances this year at Triple-A and has committed five errors in 95 fielding chances at shortstop.

In an ideal world, Iglesias would continue marinating in the minor leagues for at least another full season and the Red Sox would turn to someone else for the two or so weeks that Scutaro is sidelined. But 23-year-old infielder Yamaico Navarro just landed on the minor league disabled list with an injury of his own and the organization isn’t exactly flush with quality shortstops.

It seemed like he was stretching his arm/elbow every other pitch during his last outing that I saw (Wed?), so this isn't a shock. It's time to play everyone's favorite game, Good Wake/Bad Wake!

If it's anything like Wakefield's last outing (or last night's game, for that matter), then the game is really "Good Lowrie/Bad Lowrie."

Bowden is on his way to Fenway; looks like Matsuzaka will go on the DL

The Red Sox just informed the media that righthanded reliever Michael Bowden is on his way to Fenway Park from Pawtucket.

He has not yet been added to the roster. But before first pitch, we expect to hear that Daisuke Matsuzaka has been placed on the disabled list.

Bowden has been terrific for the PawSox over 14 appearances: 22.2 IP, 15 H, 4 BB, 28 K and a 1.59 ERA.

My guess is that Alfredo Aceves would move into the rotation in Matsuzaka's place.

After a few trips through the rotation with Wakefield and Aceves, I bet that we will be thrilled to see whichever one of Matsuzaka or Lackey can get back first. Well, we'll be glad to see Lackey in the rotation, anyway, I'm not sure that actually seeing him is all that pleasant, but you get the idea.

Okay, maybe i finally woke up and realized I hate JMD.

Aceves Wakefield>Lackey Matsuzaka (as they have pitched this season).

I would prefer having Aceves in the rotation right now over any of the other three. The thing about Wake is he could be dominant or horrible on any given day, but he'll eat innings and not have to be pulled in the third inning because his feelings are hurt. I never thought Lackey was an ace, but he's been a bulldog his whole career. Even last year to an extent. This year it's like we're seeing a Vaginated version of him.
