Chamberlain Has Torn Ligament; Likely Out for Season

Joba Chamberlain is all but certain to miss the rest of this season — and some of 2012 — after further testing Thursday revealed a torn ligament in his right elbow. He has not revealed any symptoms commonly associated with ligament damage, but when asked whether Chamberlain needed reconstructive elbow surgery, Manager Joe Girardi said, “I don’t know how you avoid it.”

Chamberlain underwent dye-contrast magnetic resonance imaging Thursday to determine whether the Yankees’ initial diagnosis — a strained flexor muscle — was complete. Girardi seemed stumped that Chamberlain had sustained such a serious injury without feeling discomfort other than tightness after throwing long toss.

Looks like the Joba rules didn't help...

I just hope for his own sake that he doesn't use his extended DL trip as an opportunity to go back to Nebraska and enjoy his mom's home cooking.

I think all that criticism the Yankees took for the inane, "Joba Rules," was unfair, and moreover, unfounded. Seems to me they handled him perfectly.

I can't wait to see how fat he gets. He might not fit in Nebraska after a few weeks of marshmallow pork rind pies (I assume this is what Joba eats when left to his own devices). He could also hide from MLB and get colon's wonder juices shot into his arm so he comes back throwing 135 mph.

I know it's petty of me, but I fist pumped when I first heard of this news. In doing so, my elbow did NOT get busted.

That's because as a young twenty something you only lightly fistpumped once every few weeks. The JMDFistpumprules kept your elbow clean for a long career of fistpumps.

If memory serves, his Mom cooks meth, right?

So, he should lose weight, right?

Get ready for the Dellin rules..coming to a ballpark near you. Boy things for the Yankees look pretty bleak. Kind of like the Red Sox in July of 2004...I'm just saying.

Of course you had a major league pitching staff that year. We have CC and the michelin man.

couldn't happen to a nicer bloke, basically he's screwed , if he has surgery his mum will be flogging all his post operative analgesia, plus i'm sure some enterprising bosox fan could get near him , even on the scrub team and make sure they operate on the wrong arm, but post op rehab with ma in nebraska will surely be the end of his stella career

This is so true, I'm so thankful that I had better coaching in my peak years than Joba had.
