Doubront and Silva will each get a start in the first 6 games. Looks like they'll get the first shot at the 5th starter position.

"First" as in the first guys in that mix to make a spring start.

Silva is pretty far down the list otherwise. He doesn't just have to win a job, someone else will have to lose one and a roster move will have to be made.

A couple things. First of all, the throw did appear to be off line. Posada would have had to reach back for it. Posada put the tag down after receiving the backhand from Jeter. Giambi slides right into the tag if that's the case. Multiple angles show that he was probably safe by running through. The only contact Posada seems to make is on the knee of the left leg after the right foot already touched home plate. I agree, he was probably safe, but he definitely would have been out if he slid. Third, Jeter was not out of position. He was hovering near the pitcher's mound for any relay to third and backing up anything meant for home. Typically that play is designed with the first-baseman in mind since it's an extra base scenario and no plays will take place at 1B. Apparently the Yankees practiced this with Jeter in mind since he could get to those spots faster than Tino Martinez. Bottom line though is that Giambi still appeared to be safe. If he had crashed Posada the ball probably would have come loose and there would be no question.

As for the dive into the stands, that was just showmanship. He caught the ball in fair territory and could have easily peeled off towards the outfield. The dive was completely for show. If I remember correctly, Pokey Reese made an even tougher play that same game with an over the should catch on the outfield grass. Nobody talks about that play because Reese made it look routine and didn't do back flips or shoot off fireworks.

You are overlooking the fact that Posada was famous for his reach arounds in the Yankee clubhouse.

Bard & Aceves each pitched an inning at Minnesota today, so they'll probably go 2 innings next Tuesday against Baltimore. Bard says he's anxious to go 4 innings for the first time, probably in his 4th start.

I just checked the settings and everything seemed "okay". I reset it just in case there was a glitch somewhere. Let me know if you still have a problem reading or replying to the ST threads.
